a Pre-Sales & Technical Support Engineer (FAE)
About the Role
Are you a technically strong engineer who thrives at the intersection of technology and business? ASUS is expanding its Infrastructure Solutions presence across EEMEA and is looking for a Field Application Engineer to lead technical engagement in South Africa.
In this role, you will be the go-to technical expert for enterprise and public-sector customers — driving solution adoption, owning Proof-of-Concept engagements, and helping customers architect the right infrastructure for their needs. You will work closely with the sales team to build pipeline, respond to tenders, and position ASUS Data Center, edge computing, IOT, and solutions competitively in the market.
As South Africa serves as the regional hub for ASUS’s Infrastructure Solutions expansion across Africa, this role is weighted toward Pre-Sales, giving you significant influence over how the business develops across the continent.
What You Will Do
Pre-Sales & Business Development
- Lead technical discovery sessions and solution design workshops with enterprise and public-sector customers
- Own Proof-of-Concept (PoC) engagements end-to-end, from planning and design through execution and reporting
- Prepare and deliver compelling technical presentations and architecture proposals
- Provide technical input to RFP and tender responses, including specification writing and competitive positioning
- Conduct competitive analysis of the key vendors to strengthen deal positioning
- Support opportunity qualification with technical feasibility assessments
- Build and maintain trusted technical relationships with key accounts and decision-makers
Technical Support & Post-Sales
- Provide technical onboarding and deployment guidance following solution sale
- Manage customer escalations remotely and on-site; coordinate with ASUS HQ engineering teams for resolution
- Deliver technical training for customers and channel partners
- Support warranty and RMA processes requiring on-site technical assessment
- Document field learnings and share insights across the EEMEA FAE team
What We Are Looking For
Required
- 5+ years in enterprise IT, data center, or server/storage solutions
- Pre-Sales / field application / solution engineering experience in customer-facing roles
- Hands-on PoC or lab evaluation experience
- Strong knowledge of server architecture (rack, blade, high-density, GPU servers)
- Storage: NAS, SAN, NVMe, software-defined storage
- Networking fundamentals: Ethernet, switching, data center architecture
- Hands-on experience with AI/HPC infrastructure and NVIDIA GPU platforms
- Familiarity with BMC/IPMI, BIOS/firmware, Redfish, and PXE
- Virtualization: VMware, KVM or equivalent
- Linux OS administration
- Relevant vendor certification (CompTIA Server+, VMware VCP or equivalent)
- Strong English communication — written and verbal
- Ability to coordinate effectively with customers, sales, HQ, and engineering teams
- Ability to manage customer escalations remotely and on-site
- Self-starter; comfortable working independently in a field role
- Valid driver’s license; willingness to travel within South Africa and across Africa
Advantageous
- Experience in South African enterprise or public-sector accounts
- Background in AI infrastructure or GPU compute (NVIDIA DGX/HGX)
- NVIDIA DCA or equivalent AI infrastructure certification
- Channel partner or VAR engagement experience
- Red Hat RHCSA or Linux professional certification
- Experience in a matrix or multi-stakeholder reporting environment
