3 Postdoctoral Research Fellowships
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships are available for the following projects at the Rhodes University Biotechnology Innovation Centre:
Development of paper-based diagnostic tests for monitoring human and animal health and detecting environmental and food-related pathogens using molecular biology approaches such as LAMP.
Separation and quantification of bioactive compounds in cannabis and medicinal plant extracts using analytical chemistry approaches such as HPLC and GC-MS.
Suitable candidates may have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or a related discipline. Ideally, the selected candidate will have expertise in any of the following:
chemical and biological sensors;
molecular biology, especially molecular diagnostics;
biomolecule immobilisation;
analytical chemistry and surrounding techniques (such as HPLC, GC-MS, etc.)
Selected candidates are required to:
have a PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline, that was awarded within the past 5 years;
have demonstrated experience in the above expertises (such as publication of relevant scientific research);
have excellent written and communication skills
The fellowships will be awarded for a minimum of one year, renewable for up to three years, depending on performance. The fellowships are funded through the National Research Foundation (NRF) South African Research Chair in Biotechnology Innovation & Engagement and is subject to the NRF Conditions of Grant.
