Position: Â Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the African Microbiome Group
TheAfrican Microbiome Group, based in theDepartment of Microbiologyand theSchool for Data Science and Computational Thinkingat Stellenbosch University, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join ourdynamicresearch team. This position bridgesbioinformatics and microbiology, offering anexcitingopportunity to work at the forefront of microbiome research in African ecosystems.
Our group leadsdiverseresearch initiatives with a broad focus on:
Dynamics of African microbiomesacrossdiverseenvironments.
Climate change impactson microbial communities.
Environmental microbiome surveillancefor ecosystem and public health monitoring.
Microbiomes and health, with applications in communicable and non-communicable diseases.
The postdoctoral fellow will play a key role in aninterdisciplinaryproject investigatingthe effects of climate change on the evolution of microbial communities. This work will involvecollaborationwith an international network of scientists exploring the role of microbiomes in health and disease.

Selection Criteria
Ph.D. and a strong publication record in microbiology, medical microbiology, environmental, or a related field;
Experience in genome-resolved meta genomics, functional meta genomics, or a strong motivation to learn these skills;
Experience with culturing microorganisms or a strong motivation to learn;
Detailed understanding of microbial metabolism and regulation;
Excellent written and oralcommunication skills.
