The Construction Planner is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and analysis of the project’s master schedule. The primary purpose of this role is to translate engineering drawings and tender data into a robust, logic-driven Construction Baseline Program that dictates the project’s "Critical Path."
The Planner ensures that time and cost are linked. By utilizing deep construction knowledge, the Planner must ensure that production rates are realistic, resource histograms are optimized, and every activity is linked with sound engineering logic. The Planner serves as the "Early Warning System," providing the meticulous data required to defend the firm’s position during audits and contractual claims.
Education
- Primary Degree: Civil Engineering qualification or other construction related qualification. Professional registration/certification (e.g., ERB or equivalent) is preferred
- Software Certification: Advanced certification in MS Project and/or Primavera P6
- Specialized Training: Certification in CCS (Candy) Link/Planning module
Experience
- Total Career: Minimum of 10–12 years in the civil engineering industry
- Field Experience: At least 5 years of "boots on the ground" experience as a Site Engineer or Site Agent before specializing in planning. (A "paper planner" without site experience will not be considered). Experience working within the SADC region and/or on projects funded by the World Bank or African Development Bank (AfDB) is highly preferred
- Planning Track Record: Proven experience in developing baselines for infrastructure projects valued at R500M+ (Roads, Bridges, Dams, or Power Plants)
- Audit Exposure: Experience preparing programs for DFI-funded projects with strict reporting standard
