MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To draw blood, or other samples/specimens, from patients for various testing purposes in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Perform a variety of routine and complex blood and specimen collecting procedures in line with professional standards and regulatory requirements to ensure safe patient care

Conduct pre-and post-test counselling to patients and family members, to explain blood draw procedures and answer any questions about the process

Identify, prevent and report risks to ensure patient safety and follow all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain a sterile work area

Perform administrative tasks to ensure correct and accurate recording and processing of patient and clinical informationEnsure that all utilised stock is accurately recorded and charged

Build and maintain collaborative working relationships, as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the EC Unit

Required Education

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Registered/Enrolled Nurse, or

Certificate in Phlebotomy Techniques

Required Experience

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

At least 1 – 2 years’ experience after nursing/phlebotomy qualification

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols

Computer Literacy (Microsoft Office)
