The Pattern Maker is responsible for creating accurate garment patterns from designer sketches, technical drawings, and specifications. The successful candidate will ensure garments are production-ready by developing patterns that deliver the correct fit, functionality, and manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop first patterns from design sketches, technical packs, or sample garments.
- Create manual and/or digital patterns for a variety of garment categories.
- Grade patterns into multiple sizes while maintaining fit consistency.
- Produce markers to optimize fabric utilization.
- Collaborate closely with Designers, Sample Machinists, and Production teams.
- Conduct fittings and make pattern adjustments based on fit comments.
- Interpret technical drawings and garment specifications accurately.
- Prepare pattern documentation for production.
- Ensure patterns meet quality, fit, and manufacturing requirements.
- Resolve construction and production-related issues.
- Maintain an organized pattern library and version control.
- Recommend improvements to garment construction and production efficiency.
- Ensure all patterns comply with company quality standards and customer requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Diploma or Certificate in Clothing Production, Fashion Design, Pattern Technology, or a related qualification.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience as a Pattern Maker within the clothing manufacturing industry.
- Experience working with woven and knit garments.
- Strong understanding of garment construction and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to interpret technical packs and garment specifications.
- Experience with manual pattern making is essential.
- Experience with CAD pattern software (e.g. Gerber, Lectra, Optitex, Tukatech) will be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
