About the Role:
As the Packhouse Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient day-to-day operations of the packhouse, managing a dedicated team, ensuring quality and safety compliance, and optimising packaging processes to meet the demands of international customers.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Control
&
Food Safety
Ensure all packing operations align with forecasted volumes and quality standards. Address product quality concerns and maintain strong stakeholder relationships. Oversee
food safety
compliance and traceability processes. Capture data and generate quality reports. Packaging Operations Manage procurement of packaging materials within budget and deadlines. Maintain high packaging quality while driving cost efficiency. Supervise the packaging team and oversee stock verification.
Packhouse Management Plan and execute daily operations to meet customer orders and efficiency targets. Ensure cold chain management and transport logistics are optimized. Monitor stock rotation, minimize waste, and meet production goals. Handle sales documentation and production verifications. Pulp Operations Oversee pulp processing, ensuring efficiency,
quality control
, and waste management. Labour Management & HR Coordinate staffing with management to ensure adequate training and support.
Adjust workforce levels according to operational demands. Health & Safety Enforce health and
safety protocols
, ensuring compliance with
food safety
standards. Oversee cleaning schedules and conduct safety audits. Requirements:
Education:
Tertiary qualification in Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field .
Experience:
3-5 years in packhouse management or a similar operational role , with expertise in
quality control
,
food safety
, and labour management .
Skills:
Strong
leadership
and team management abilities. In-depth knowledge of
food safety
standards and
quality control
. Proficiency in
inventory management
and stock rotation . Excellent
communication skills
in English (Afrikaans and Xhosa advantageous). Driver’s Licence:
Code 8 required. Additional Information:
This role involves physical work (lifting, moving products, and working in various weather conditions). Overtime and weekend work may be required, especially during peak seasons. The Packhouse Assistant Manager will be on-call outside regular hours for emergencies.
