Overhead Door Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable and skilled Overhead Door Technician to install, service, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial overhead door systems. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, comfortable working with power tools and electrical components, and committed to providing excellent customer service.
This position requires field work at customer locations and may involve working at heights, lifting heavy materials, and responding to service calls.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair commercial and industrial overhead doors and related equipment.
- Service sectional doors, rolling steel doors, fire-rated doors, high-speed doors, and other specialty door systems.
- Install and repair door operators, motors, controls, safety devices, photo eyes, and related electrical components.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and determine appropriate repairs.
- Replace and adjust springs, cables, rollers, tracks, hinges, bearings, hardware, and other door components.
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
- Test completed work to ensure doors and operators function safely and properly.
- Read work orders, manufacturer instructions, diagrams, and basic electrical schematics.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding repairs, maintenance needs, and completed work.
- Maintain accurate service documentation, including materials used and work performed.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and service vehicles in good working condition.
- Follow company procedures, OSHA requirements, and all applicable jobsite safety standards.
- Coordinate with dispatchers, project managers, customers, and other technicians as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Participate in training and stay current on door systems, operators, controls, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Previous experience installing or servicing overhead doors, commercial doors, gates, dock equipment, or similar mechanical systems preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Basic electrical knowledge and ability to troubleshoot low-voltage and operator-related electrical issues preferred.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and testing equipment.
- Ability to read measurements accurately and follow technical instructions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Dependable, organized, and able to manage multiple service calls or assignments.
- Willingness to work overtime or participate in emergency/on-call service when required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from lifts or elevated locations.
- Ability to frequently stand, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, push, and pull.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
- Ability to safely handle tools, equipment, door components, and materials throughout the workday.
Preferred Experience
- Commercial overhead door installation and service experience.
- Rolling steel and sectional door experience.
- Commercial door operator and motor troubleshooting experience.
- Fire door inspection or service experience.
- Experience with access control, automatic gates, or related systems.
- OSHA, lift, or other applicable safety certifications.

Pay: $25.00 – $37.00 per hour
