Job Overview
The Operations Manager will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing rigging and heavy lifting jobs across Johannesburg and surrounding areas. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring the ability to manage people, logistics, safety, and client relations. This is not a standard 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM position—the successful candidate must be flexible and available for early starts, after-hours work, and weekends based on operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee all day-to-day operational activities of the Germiston branch.
Plan and allocate resources, vehicles, and manpower for scheduled jobs.
Ensure timely and safe execution of rigging, lifting, and transport projects.
Maintain strong communication with clients before, during, and after projects.
Conduct site inspections, risk assessments, and pre-job planning.
Drive operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
Lead, coach, and mentor operational teams, ensuring accountability and performance.
Work closely with internal departments (Sales, Safety, Admin, and Finance) to ensure smooth workflow.
Maintain accurate records of jobs, timesheets, costings, and documentation.
Respond promptly to any on-site issues or emergencies.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience in an operations or site management role (preferably in rigging, construction, logistics, or transport).
Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
Excellent understanding of health, safety, and legal requirements related to rigging and lifting operations.
Ability to manage multiple jobs and deadlines under pressure.
Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
Computer literate (Microsoft Office, job scheduling systems, etc.).
Valid driver’s licence (Code 08 or higher) is essential.
Work Schedule
This is not a standard 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM job.
Operational demands may require early mornings, after-hours, weekends, and public holiday availability.
The role involves on-site visits and field support when necessary.
