WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
The purpose of this role is to achieve production targets in a safe and client responsive manner.
What You Will Be Responsible For
Successful blasts according to requirements
- Responsible for ensuring that blasting takes place on time and in line with the customer's request. This includes all the pre-blasting activities such as (among other things)
- Preparation of the Emulsion Charging Unit,
- The planning of the blast,
- Blasting design,
- Preparation including measuring of holes, pumping, wiring, timing and stemming of holes,
- Testing and quality assurance of the product,
- Monthly report to BME management and mine including a blasting efficiencies report and cost analysis.

Compliant With Legal And Company Requirements
- Underground safety.
- Storage of accessories and products is in line with statutory prescriptions. Responsible for ensuring the security of stocks in storage areas in order to eliminate damage, theft and pilferage.
- Stocks stored with due consideration to all statutory and SHEQ prescriptions such as, for example, the separate storage of explosives and accessories.
- Correct and appropriate procedures followed with regard to loading/unloading of trucks and the movement of products into and out of storage areas.
- Ensure that all the requirements of the OSH Act, and statutory prescriptions (at a minimum) are met on the site.
- Ensure staff working on the site meet all the statutory, legal and BME SHEQ requirements, standards, and prescriptions necessary for the performance of day-to-day activities on the site as well as preparing for and executing a detonation. This includes, among other things, the items on the Monthly Site Inspection Form as well as for underground blasting preparation and exec.
Enabled blasting operations and services
- Hands on guidance of employees to function optimally
- Inputs to Site Management budgeting process in line with site objectives
- Train and create an environment of knowledge transfer/ sharing with mine personnel.
- Responsible for ensuring the sound management of storage areas such as the silo and the magazines on site.
Prevented waste/eliminated cost
- Make sure the necessary controls are in place to monitor usage to eliminate unnecessary waste
- Responsible for exercising financial control by ensuring that expenditures on site are managed inside the allocated budget costs, are allocated to appropriate cost centres or cost codes, checking for errors or omissions, and making the necessary corrections.
Serviced clients
- Work closely with mine employees on the site and manage the relationships with them so that needs can be assessed, and sound service delivery can take place.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction on site.
Qualifications
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- Blasting Ticket
- Advanced Blasting Course (Advantage)
Experience
- 3 years' mining experience as a supervisor or Equivalent (preferably Underground)
- 3 years' demonstrated knowledge of performing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical maintenance
