The Operations & Logistics Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily logistics of Okler Roofing’s field operations. The primary focus of this position is ensuring that materials, equipment, vehicles, tools, and other resources are where they need to be, when they need to be there so field crews can remain productive and projects can continue without unnecessary downtime.This is a hands-on, highly mobile position requiring close coordination with the Operations Manager, Superintendents, shop personnel, suppliers, and field crews. The Operations & Logistics Assistant provides rapid response to changing field needs, transports materials and equipment, maintains fleet and equipment readiness, and solves logistical problems as they arise throughout the workday.Roofing or construction experience is strongly preferred. A working knowledge of roofing materials, equipment, terminology, and jobsite operations is highly valuable in anticipating field needs and responding effectively.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesLogistics & Field Coordination
- Coordinate the daily movement of materials, equipment, trailers, tools, and supplies between the shop, suppliers, and active jobsites.
- Provide rapid response to logistical and material needs from active field crews.
- Transport roofing materials, tools, supplies, and equipment to active jobsites as needed to prevent production delays.
- Pick up materials, tools, parts, and supplies from vendors and suppliers.
- Transport equipment and trailers between jobsites, suppliers, service facilities, and company property.
- Coordinate equipment movements based on current and upcoming production schedules.
- Help ensure crews have the correct materials, equipment, tools, and resources necessary to complete scheduled work.
- Anticipate upcoming logistical needs whenever possible rather than relying solely on last-minute requests.
- Communicate material shortages, equipment conflicts, transportation issues, or other potential production delays to the Operations Manager.
- Maintain clear communication with field leadership regarding deliveries, pickups, equipment movements, and estimated arrival times.
- Confirm assigned deliveries, pickups, and equipment movements have been completed.
- Coordinate the retrieval of leftover materials, tools, trailers, and equipment from completed jobsites.
- Assist with jobsite mobilization and demobilization.
Material & Equipment Transportation
- Safely load, secure, transport, and unload roofing materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Transport dump trailers, equipment trailers, Equipters, and other company equipment as authorized.
- Deliver additional materials or equipment when field conditions, production requirements, or unforeseen circumstances create a need.
- Retrieve unused materials and equipment from active and completed jobsites.
- Ensure all transported loads are properly positioned and secured before transportation.
- Assist with staging materials, trailers, tools, and equipment for upcoming projects.
- Follow applicable company, DOT, and load-securement requirements.
Fleet & Equipment Readiness
- Help ensure company trucks, trailers, and field equipment remain fueled, operational, and ready for deployment.
- Fuel company vehicles and equipment as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic service on company fleet and equipment, including but not limited to:
- Trucks
- Dump trailers
- Equipment trailers
- Equipters
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Small engines
- Jobsite equipment
- Conduct routine visual and operational inspections.
- Identify maintenance and repair needs before they result in equipment downtime.
- Immediately communicate mechanical problems or equipment concerns.
- Assist with transporting vehicles, trailers, and equipment for outside service or repairs.
- Help maintain clean, organized, safe, and job-ready vehicles and equipment.
Equipment Operation
- Safely operate forklifts as a regular function of the position.
- Load and unload roofing materials, deliveries, trucks, and trailers using a forklift.
- Safely operate telehandlers and other material-handling equipment when trained and authorized.
- Safely operate company vehicles and equipment for which the employee is trained, licensed, and authorized.
- Properly connect, tow, maneuver, and back trailers.
- Perform required pre-use inspections before operating company vehicles or equipment.
- Follow manufacturer requirements and company procedures when operating equipment.
- Immediately report mechanical problems, equipment damage, accidents, or unsafe conditions.
- Never operate equipment outside of applicable training, licensing, or authorization requirements.
Production & Field Support
- Fill in for field personnel when additional manpower is necessary.
- Assist roofing crews with material handling, tear-off, installation, cleanup, and other field activities when directed.
- Provide temporary field support during staffing shortages, high-production periods, difficult projects, or unexpected circumstances.
- Assist Superintendents and field leadership with operational needs when necessary.
- Support jobsite setup and breakdown as needed.
- Follow company installation standards and safety procedures whenever performing field work.
QualificationsRequired
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to safely operate a forklift.
- Ability and willingness to complete and maintain required company forklift training/certification.
- Ability to safely operate company vehicles and tow company trailers within applicable licensing requirements.
- Ability to safely load, unload, and secure construction materials and equipment.
- Strong logistical and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and respond quickly to changing field needs.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and changing priorities throughout the workday.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Willingness to work both independently and as part of a field crew.

Preferred
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Roofing or construction experience.
- Working knowledge of roofing materials, tools, terminology, and installation processes.
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, including but not limited to:
- Skid steers
- Loaders
- Tractors
- Telehandlers
- Forklifts
- Semi-trucks
- Construction and material-handling equipment
- Experience transporting construction equipment, materials, and trailers.
- Strong experience towing, maneuvering, and backing trailers.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and experience performing routine maintenance on trucks, trailers, and construction equipment.
- Familiarity with DOT requirements, load securement, towing requirements, and safe transportation practices.
Physical RequirementsThis is a physically active position involving driving, material handling, equipment operation, and construction work. The employee must be able to:
- Regularly lift, carry, push, and move construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Enter and exit trucks and heavy equipment throughout the workday.
- Safely load and unload materials and equipment.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Walk and work on uneven construction surfaces.
- Perform physical roofing and construction tasks when assigned.
- Safely perform duties at heights when properly trained and equipped.
- Meet the physical demands associated with material handling, logistics, equipment operation, and field support.

- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, equipment damage, or hazards.
Position Expectations
The Operations & Logistics Assistant plays a critical role in maintaining the flow of daily production. This position requires an individual who is highly responsive, organized, mechanically capable, dependable, adaptable, and comfortable operating vehicles and equipment.Priorities may change throughout the day based on weather, production progress, material requirements, equipment availability, staffing, and unexpected field conditions. The individual in this position must be comfortable adjusting priorities and responding wherever the operational need is greatest.Success in this position means:
- Field crews receive the materials and equipment they need without unnecessary downtime.
- Equipment and trailers are moved where they are needed according to the production schedule.
- Company vehicles and equipment remain fueled and operational.
- Materials are safely loaded, transported, unloaded, and staged.
- Field requests receive a rapid response.
- Potential logistical problems are identified and addressed before they disrupt production.
- The Operations Manager and Superintendents can rely on this position to handle day-to-day logistical needs with minimal follow-up.
- The individual is willing and able to step into the field when additional manpower is necessary.

Pay: $22.00 – $28.00 per hour
