We are a reputable financial services provider located in the scenic Umhlanga Ridge, and we are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Health and Safety Specialist to uphold a safe and healthy working environment for our staff. We are looking for a calm and composed professional who can manage workplace incidents and accidents with efficiency, offering clear guidance on the appropriate steps to take. Responsibilities will include incident management, compensation oversight, and comprehensive reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with South African regulations and industry best practices.
Conduct regular risk assessments and safety audits to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation.
Training and Awareness:
Design and deliver tailored health andsafety trainingprograms for call centre operations, covering emergency procedures, ergonomics, and safe work practices.
Create and distribute safety communications and updates to keep employees informed about health and safety issues.
Incident Management:
Manage workplace accidents and incidents by investigating, documenting findings, and implementing preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
Maintain records of incidents, near misses, and safety inspections, and prepare reports for internal and regulatory review.
Emergency Preparedness:
Develop and implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, first aid, and firesafety protocols.
Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure employee preparedness for emergencies.
Compliance and Documentation:
Hold regular health and safety meetings with representatives.
Arrange training for representatives based on organizational needs.
Monitor the validity of health and safety certifications and coordinate necessary refresher training.
Ensure all documentation is accurate,up-to-date, and compliant with South African health and safety regulations.
Prepare and submit required health and safety reports and documentation to relevant authorities.
Collaboration and Support:
Collaborate with HR, facilities management, and other departments to foster a culture of safety and well-being within the call centre.
Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on health and safety issues and concerns.
Minimum Requirements:
Matric with a recognized qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
At least3
-5 years’ specialist experience as a Health and Safety Officer/Specialist,or related rolewithin a large corporate environment with 500 to 1000 staff.
Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of South African health and safety regulations and best practices.
Strongcommunicationand interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in health and safety management software and tools.
Excellent organizational andproblem-solving skills.
