Requirements:
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Millwright is responsible for managing all aspects related to the integrity, safety and optimal functioning of the processing plant. This includes mechanical and electrical maintenance, technical staff management, asset care strategy implementation and ensuring continuous improvement in operations. The plant handles high-risk equipment including an oil-fired boiler (operating up to 1MPa) and processes involving hazardous chemicals.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure operational readiness and continuous uptime of plant assets, with focus on FOG (fats, oils, greases) and other high-value waste streams.
Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of a Planned Maintenance System.
Conduct audits, inspections, and assessments to ensure compliance with workmanship standards, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
Manage mechanical and electrical integrity of plant equipment including boilers, pumps, centrifuges, piping, etc.
Investigate incidents and lead corrective action plans.
Perform and document failure analysis to address root causes and prevent recurrence.
Maintain and optimise safety protocols and cultivate a strong safety culture in line with the OHSA (Occupational Health and Safety Act).
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and supervise maintenance and technical personnel.
Identify skill gaps and implement training and development plans.
Maintain electronic documentation of all guarantees and warranties of plant equipment.
Oversee commissioning and testing of new equipment/installations.
Manage contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with quality and safety requirements.
Ensure critical spares are stocked and managed appropriately.
Assist in the technical design of new installations and upgrades.
Set and enforce site rules, safety signage, and access protocols.
Contribute to the preparation and supervision of projects and plant shutdowns.
Support continuous improvement by researching and proposing new technologies or process enhancements.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Mechanical or electrical trade qualification (Millwright, Fitter, Electrician) or related training preferred.
3 years of experience in maintenance roles within processing or industrial environments.
Strong knowledge of boiler operations, rotating equipment, piping systems, and hazardous chemical handling.
Proficient in planned maintenance systems and condition-based monitoring.
Must have experience in people management and contractor oversight.
Experience in the waste/wastewater sector is a strong advantage.
Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as operationally required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED
Mechanical and electrical diagnostics
Preventive and breakdown maintenance
Basic project planning
Computer literacy (MS Office, maintenance software)
Health & Safety compliance (OHSA knowledge essential)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in industrial environment with exposure to high temperatures, chemicals and rotating machinery. Must comply with company safety protocols, PPE requirements, and site-specific risk assessments.
