The purpose of this position is to conduct microbiological analysis in the laboratory according to Client needs and ISO 17025 Standards
Qualification Requirements
Grade 12
Three-year Diploma or Degree in Biotechnology
Experience and Skills Requirements
Minimum 1 year experience in microbiological analysis
Knowledge of Laboratory Equipment
English language proficiency
Time management
Computer Literacy, especially MS Office
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that the correct chemical control measures are followed at all times
Receiving samples, registration of samples and liaising with Clients
Preparation of media to be used for tests and perform quality assurance tests on media
Preparation of quality control tests
Preparation of samples
Performing tests as per Standard Operating Procedures: water samples, swab samples and food samples
Compiling reports for Clients, scanning reports and sending approved results to Clients
Water Section: Conduct tests using the Standard Operating Procedures in the Water Laboratory, and compile reports needed in the section
Quality Assurance: Calibrate pipettes, micropipettes and glassware and complete maintenance records where required
Perform administrative duties to ensure record accuracy and availability, and budget compliance
Compile various production reports and ensure distribution according to organizational requirements
Assist with stock control at the end of the month
Assist with invoicing of clients
Oversee that all test work is conducted in the Lab and ensure accurate results to the client and stakeholders
Ensure adherence to quality requirements, calibrations, certifications and monitoring of laboratory feedback
Perform tests for different Proficiency Testing Schemes
Ensure implementation of corrective measures and objectives and targets
Continuously monitor the Laboratory process to ensure adherence to ISO 17025 and legislative standards/requirements
Effectively managing time and resources of self/others to ensure that work is completed efficiently within given deadlines
