Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Mechanical Draughtsman role based at AJ Power Generators’ facility in Cape Town. The Mechanical Draughtsman will be responsible for producing accurate mechanical and engineering drawings for diesel generator sets and related components, ensuring compliance with company standards and industry regulations. Daily tasks include developing and revising detailed technical drawings, preparing layouts and assembly drawings, and translating design concepts into clear, manufacturable documentation using relevant software. The role involves collaborating with the project manager and technical teams to clarify specifications, resolve design issues, and support efficient production and installation. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with expertise in CAD design, sheet metal manufacturing, and technical drafting. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, proactive, and capable of supporting costing, production, and supplier coordination. The Mechanical Draughtsman will also maintain drawing records, contribute to continuous improvement of design documentation, and assist in ensuring that designs reflect performance, safety, and environmental requirements.
Key:
-Draft and develop new design drawings for costing and production
-Assist in costing and estimating for tenders and quotations
-Support manufacturing teams in design implementation
-Liaise with suppliers for order processing and procurement
-Conduct site visits with sales and installation teams for accurate measurements
Experience:
- Strong proficiency in Mechanical Drawings and Engineering Drawings, with the ability to produce clear, precise, and manufacturable documentation.
- Competence in Technical Drawing practices, including standards, tolerances, and dimensioning for mechanical components and assemblies.
- Hands-on experience with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools specifically Solidworks and Draftsight.
- Knowledge of Design Engineering principles related to mechanical systems, preferably within power generation or heavy equipment.
- Relevant technical qualification, such as a diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a closely related field.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, schematics, and bills of materials, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Key:
-National Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or BTech in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
-1–2 years’ experience in a technical environment
-1–2 years’ experience with sheet metal design & manufacturing
-Proficiency in SolidWorks & DraftSight
