Our client based in Wadeville, Eastrand is looking at recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
Design Engineering
Generate detailed designs which conform to fit, form and function, complete with machining/fabrication and assembly drawings.
Review customer requests, evaluate and provide technical solutions to product performance in the field.
Review manufacturing drawings and work closely with the production team to provide technical support during the manufacturing and assembly process, including troubleshooting andproblem-solving.
Assist with new designs or adjustments to existing designs.
Comply with all the design requirements according to customer specifications, industry, company and engineering standards.
Support the assembly process to ensure that all contractual technical requirements are met.
Identify shortcomings in assembly methods and/or develop new assembly methods and resolve any problems encountered during the assembly process.
Develop and maintain accurate documentation, including specifications, BOMs, assembly instructions, and test protocols.
Develop concise and detailed manufacturing processes in line with design and drawing data to populate the ERP system for manufacturing and assembly purposes.
Identify applicable materials and processes for component/assembly requirements.
Manage deliverables chronologically, throughout the project progress with the relevant departments.
Assist Procurement on technical issues and queries.
Draughting Specialist
Technical Drawings:
Produce detailed 2D and 3D drawings of components, assemblies, and systems that conform to engineering and company standards.
CAD Modelling:
Utilise CAD software (Solid Works) to create and modify technical drawings for both new and existing designs.
Ensure adherence to ISO quality standards and procedures of record keeping and maintenance of drawing register, traceability and change control management.
Ensure that the company and relevant department records are kept updated with the latest drawing revisions.
Assist machine-shop and fabrication teams with machine-setup & interpretation of drawings.
Assist the QA/QC department to interpret and understand drawing requirements and identify/resolve Non-Conformances.
Project Management
Participate in design meetings with Sales, QA & the planning department + Technical handovers, internally and externally.
Evaluate machine-shop and fabricator abilities and capacities, and provide feedback to improve lead times, cost management and quality.
Competencies
Required Qualifications
National Senior Certificate
National Diploma Mechanical Engineering (N6) or BTech
Knowledge
General knowledge of mechanical/manufacturing engineering concepts.
Understanding of material properties and uses.
Understanding of manufacturing techniques including fabrication, machining, and finishing processes extending to tolerances and fits.
Proficient in CAD software.
Experience
2-5 years in a similar role.
Mechanical Design Engineering Experience.
CAD modelling (Solid Works preferable).
High LevelProject management.
ERP System experience advantageous.
Technical Competencies
Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Technical Drawing compilation.
Computer Literacy including the use of MS Office packages.
Project Managementand reporting.
Manufacturing Processes & CNC Machining.
