Marketing Actuary Jobs in Johannesburg Metropolitan Area at Naked
Title: Marketing Actuary
Company: Naked
Location: Johannesburg Metropolitan Area
About the team
Naked is building the AI insurer of the future, and our Marketing Analytics team sits right at the heart of how we grow. We are working towards making Naked South Africa’s de facto choice for short-term insurance: the brand people think of first when they want car, home, single item or pet insurance.
Backed by a $38 million Series B2, we recently became the first insurer globally to offer binding car insurance quotes directly inside ChatGPT. Performance marketing at Naked is not a media-buying seat. Because we are an AI-native insurer with our own quoting, pricing and data infrastructure, you can see all the way down the funnel, from impression to quote to bound policy to the lifetime value of that customer, and you are expected to make decisions on that basis, not on last-click conversions.
You’ll sit inside the Marketing Analytics pod, the team that builds the measurement layer behind our growth: incrementality tests, Marketing Mix Models, elasticity and unit-economic models. That means your channel decisions get properly measured, and your instincts get properly sharpened.
Role purpose
We’re looking for a performance marketer to own how Naked turns digital marketing spend into sales. The core question this role exists to answer is simple, but powerful:
How do we spend an order of magnitude more on digital advertising while keeping the marginal rand profitable?
Every channel has a response curve: incremental return falls as you push more spend through it. The job isn’t to “hold returns intact” at two times the budget. The job is to shift those curves up and change their shape – creating more incremental return per rand at every level of spend, and a saturation point that sits further out. That puts the onus on you to understand what actually moves those economics: how the auctions, algorithms and delivery systems behave, where the levers really are, and what we’d have to do differently to keep the marginal rand working as budgets grow.
In practice it runs in two main directions:
- creative: what we say, show and test
- targeting: who we reach, how often, and at what cost
Both shift the economics in our favour, and both get sharper the cleaner the signal we feed the platforms.
You’ll own implementation across the paid channels: how we deploy the budget, the structure, the audiences, the creative testing pipeline, and the feedback loop between what we spend and what we actually acquire. That means holding strong convictions about the channels you operate on, where they work, where they don’t, and what you’d change, and being able to defend them. You’ll run a high tempo of experiments, kill what doesn’t work quickly, and scale what does.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Own the channels and the curve: You’ll plan, execute, and optimise paid acquisition across search, social, video, and emerging channels. The job is to improve the underlying economics: more incremental return per rand at every spend level, and saturation pushed further out, so the range you can profitably spend into keeps widening. In practice that means owning budget pacing, bidding and account structure; knowing where each channel saturates and how steeply; and being able to argue for a channel on the incremental return of its marginal rand, not its average, and not its platform-attributed ROAS.
- Build a creative testing machine: Creative is the largest lever in modern performance marketing. You’ll build the pipeline that gets more concepts, hooks and formats into the market faster: briefing, testing, reading results honestly, and feeding what you learn back into the next round. That includes having a point of view on what to test and why, not just running variants for the sake of volume: which messages, audiences and formats are worth spending a test budget on, and what we would do differently if a concept wins.
- Make the funnel legible: You’ll work with the marketing actuaries sitting next to you to make sure measurement is good enough to act on: clean tracking and conversion feeds into platforms, offline and value-based conversion signals wired up, holdouts and geo-splits designed in rather than bolted on afterwards. You’ll also help us find better ways to understand the funnel itself: randomised studies, geo experiments, brand lift studies, and anything else that gives us a cleaner view of what is genuinely moving quotes and policies rather than what platform attribution claims.
Key Requirements:
- You should have: 3+ years’ hands-on performance marketing experience, with direct ownership of meaningful paid budgets.
- A track record of scaling spend while holding or improving efficiency, and the ability to explain how you did it.
- A degree in a quantitative field (e.g. finance or mathematics) or a digital-marketing specialisation.
- Experience running A/B tests and other lift studies.
No specific industry background is required. Judgement, execution speed and analytical honesty matter more than category experience. Insurance, fintech or other regulated, high-consideration categories would be a plus.
Advantageous skills
- Incrementality testing, geo experiments or holdout design.
- Working with a measurement or analytics function on MMM or attribution frameworks.
- Server-side tracking, conversion APIs, value-based bidding or offline conversion uploads.
- Using AI tools, SQL, Python or scripting to streamline workflows (creative production, campaign operations and reporting) so more time goes into the decisions that matter.
- Marketing in a subscription or recurring-revenue model, where retention economics matter as much as acquisition cost.
Working model
You’ll sit in the Marketing Analytics pod, a small high-impact team, and work closely with our creatives. You’ll report to the Head of Marketing Analytics, a qualified actuary, and work alongside our marketing actuaries. This is a far more analytically capable pod than most marketing teams you’ll have worked in: proper incrementality work, honest reads on what your spend is actually doing, and people who can tell the difference between a real result and noise.
