About the Company

A well-established manufacturing company based in Johannesburg (Southdale) is seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join its Finance & Procurement team. This role is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, driving cost control initiatives, supporting strategic decision-making, and delivering meaningful financial insights to management.

The successful candidate will have strong manufacturing and cost accounting experience, excellent analytical abilities, and a proven track record of maintaining financial integrity while supporting operational efficiency and business growth.

Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Compliance

  • Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare and process month-end journals, accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
  • Manage the fixed asset register and monthly depreciation calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with tax, financial, and legal requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits and maintain audit-ready documentation.
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable oversight.
  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls and company policies.

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management

  • Maintain and update standard costing for labour, materials, and overheads.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis and investigate cost discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate inventory valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Reconcile inventory and cost-related accounts monthly.
  • Monitor production waste, scrap, and obsolescence reporting.
  • Prepare inventory gains/losses reports and cost analysis.
  • Manage pricing calculations, administration, and system integration.

Reporting & Business Support

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and reporting packs.
  • Assist with departmental profit and loss reporting.
  • Conduct gross margin and profitability analysis.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Track operational and financial KPIs.
  • Assist with cost modelling for new products and capital expenditure projects.
  • Identify and recommend cost-saving and efficiency-improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Accounting or Finance (Honours advantageous).
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment with strong costing exposure.

Required Skills

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with Pastel will be advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to data integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Professional, trustworthy, organised, and highly confidential in all matters.

Pay range and compensation package

Market-related, dependent on qualifications and experience.
