Role Purpose:
Maintaining, servicing, and repairing mechanical, civil, and electrical agriculture-related machinery and equipment. Executing maintenance and excavation production-related tasks outside of poultry houses but inside the farm perimeter fences.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent education
- Technical Senior Certificate or similar technical qualification (N3) advantage.
- Driver’s licence Code 8
- Electrical Modules M0-4
Required Experience:
- 3 years’ experience in an electrical and Mechanical environment
- Previous experience in a poultry environment – advantage
Main Responsibilities:
General Maintenance and servicing of farm equipment
- Inspection of machinery and equipment as per supplier requirements set out in the maintenance manuals (BOP’s)
- Maintenance and repair of all agriculture-related machinery and equipment in accordance with the maintenance plan and schedule
- Repair of agriculture-related machinery and equipment per breakdown
- Daily inspection of all agriculture-related machinery, equipment, and constructions for prevention of breakdowns.
- Perform quarantine and standby duties.
- Biosecurity fencing, electric fencing, and gate maintenance & repairs
- Signing off on maintenance tasks allocated and submitting job cards
Agriculture-related machinery and equipment
- Standby generator inspection and engine fault finding (battery & diesel related)
- Water supply and meter integrity inspection & repairs
- Compressor inspection and leak repairs (BOP)
- Chicken trolleys
- Disinfection pump system
- Gas heater inspection & repairs
- Feeder line motor & Gearbox
- Drinker system, water supply, and filters
- Louvers, curtains & winch units
- Fans, louvers, and safety guards
- Lights, dimmable units, and leveling of lights
Civil Maintenance
- Maintenance and inspection of water systems and main water supply
- Building maintenance: doors, windows, locks, showers, etc
- Building roof structure, ceiling, and insulation integrity.
- Repair of plumbing units around the farm
- Maintenance and repair of quarantine quarters as per maintenance schedule
- Operating a lawnmower and brush-cutter, spade and garden fork
Electrical Maintenance
- General electrical repair of poultry house lights & equipment testing per breakdown
- General electrical maintenance and repair on specified equipment.
- Guided changing of single- and 3-phase motors
Cull Handling, Incinerator Operation & Maintenance
- Loading and safe handling of culled chicken corpses
- Incineration of culled chicken corpses
- Operating an incinerator, cleaning, and maintenance
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Attention to detail
- Accuracy with all measuring equipment
- Welding, brazing, safe operation of electrical hand tools
- PVC, galvanized, and compression pipe cutting and jointing
