1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
Integral part of the site maintenance function in leading a multiskilled maintenance team that maintains all operational equipment, infrastructures and facilities. Oversee and drive planned preventative maintenance schedules to ensure site operational effectiveness, minimize downtime due to equipment failure or breakdowns, manage and implement improvement plans, drive performance, ensure that Food Safety and SHER requirements are adhered to. Implement and manage continuous improvement and modern manufacturing principles by highlighting deficiencies and recommending changes in equipment, training, working practices and processes.
2. SCOPE OF JOB
Independence (Finance)
- Drive cost reduction whilst optimizing resources and meeting resource requirements continuously.
- Assist with the development and monitoring of Engineering and Maintenance budgets.
- Assist with identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Manage requisitions, purchase orders and submission for quotes and payments with the correct approval.
- Ensure correct spend allocations to maintenance general ledgers, monitor budgets.
Customer Centricity
- Downtime minimisation and asset reliability, coordinate with HODs equipment availability and schedule imminent and preventative maintenance during planned production windows to prevent unexpected breakdowns.
- Enforce OSHA/OHS standards, hazard identification, and strict adherence to safe work procedures.
- Ensure safety protocols including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and permits to work are followed.
- Maintain excellent workshop housekeeping to prevent workplace accidents and promote a safe environment
- Ensure HACCP, FSSC, BRC and GMP standards are applied during all machinery repairs and modifications.
- Ensure the mandatory use of food-grade lubricants and materials on all product-contact surfaces.
- Ensure hygiene-centric maintenance operations.
- Oversee the rapid repair and calibration of critical food processing assets, including fillers, blenders, and scales.
- Ensure all tools, loose parts, and fasteners are strictly accounted for post-repair to prevent foreign body contamination.
- Ensure that relevant supervisors and managers are satisfied with the level of work delivered and the appropriate level of housekeeping has been maintained in the area upon job completion.
Process
- Ensure that designated buildings, plant and facilities are fit for purpose and to provide proactive support/solutions when required.
- Co-ordinate the team effort on open works orders, running through assigned work with the team on a weekly basis.
- Allocate daily work orders and manage work-in-progress to meet deadlines.
- Promote collaboration between team members.
- Team leadership and resource management by supervising, training and supporting workshop technicians, apprentices, and trades people.
- Manage contractors on site.
- Monitor team productivity and efficiency, addressing any performance issues, training gaps, or lack of resources.
- Technical oversight and quality control by assisting technicians with mechanical and electrical diagnostics and fault-finding as required.
- Handling emergency equipment breakdowns to ensure resources are adequate and call in additional as required.
- Diagnose root causes of recurring machinery failures on the line to implement permanent engineering fixes.
- Take part in scoping planned work and modifications to drive standardisation.
- Conduct quality control inspections on completed repairs.
- Ensure all repairs meet exact manufacturer specifications and engineering standards.
- Oversee planned preventative maintenance and support the team to deliver effectively.
- Ensure routine calibration and routine maintenance requirements of a variety of electro-mechanical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems are undertaken.
- Schedule work maximizing planned down time and reducing unplanned downtime.
- Manage critical spares, ensuring specialised and fast-moving components are readily available.
- Adhere to daily and weekly checks to ensure smooth operation of site and compliance to food safety standards.
- Optimise equipment according to standard procedure, enhancing performance and product quality, ensuring the achievement of all key performance indicators.
- Ensure the site is always secure, neat and tidy before leaving after each shift.
- Support all projects with regards to civil, mechanical, and electrical installations.

4.QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS LEVEL:
- A recognized Trade Test Certificate (e.g., Red Seal Millwright or Fitter).
- 3 to 7+ years of experience in a supervisory or foreman capacity in heavy manufacturing, FMCG, or food and beverage.
- Ability to read blueprint/schematics, strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and excellent conflict-resolution and organizational skills.
- Experience in managing a team.
- Knowledge and experience in working in ISO, HACCP, GMP, OHSACT regulated environment.
- A valid code B or higher driver’s license.
- Own reliable transport as overtime and weekend work will be required from time to time.
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Knowledge in ERP systems: SYSPRO, SAP advantageous.
