Role Summary The Maintenance & Project Manager (Grade D1) is based in Gqeberha and reports directly to the Site Manager. This senior leadership role focuses on ensuring plant equipment reliability, driving continuous improvement, and leading new machinery installations, upgrades, and capital projects (CAPEX). The ideal candidate brings strong practical engineering expertise—ideally with an artisan foundation—to manage maintenance budgets, lead technical teams, and ensure strict safety and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Reliability: Develop, implement, and manage preventative maintenance schedules to maximize machine availability and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Project Management & Engineering: Lead new machinery introductions and upgrades from spec writing to supplier coordination and full commissioning.
  • Technical & Operational Oversight: Provide hands-on guidance across electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems while maintaining engineering standards and SOPs.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Prepare and manage departmental CAPEX and OPEX budgets, manage spare parts procurement, and track key cost-avoidance metrics.
  • Team Leadership & Safety: Coach, mentor, and manage maintenance staff and external contractors while enforcing HSE regulations, risk assessments, and plant audits.
  • Essential Criteria

    • Experience: Minimum 5+ years in maintenance and project engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
    • Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).
    • Certifications: GMR2 certification is preferred.
    • Technical Expertise: Proven track record managing capital projects, preventative maintenance programs, and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
    • Leadership: Strong practical leadership, problem-solving skills, and experience managing plant budgets and contractor performance.
