Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Loan Officer role based in Western Cape, South Africa. The Loan Officer will evaluate and process short-term loan applications, including verifying customer information, assessing affordability, and determining creditworthiness in line with company policies and regulatory requirements. The Loan Officer will manage documentation and digital records, and coordinate with internal teams to support rapid, accurate loan decisions. Ongoing responsibilities include monitoring loan performance, maintaining compliance with the National Credit Act, and contributing feedback to improve lending processes and customer experience.

Job description:
The Loan Officer will be responsible for assessing, verifying, processing, disbursements and
managing short term loan applications through our online lending platform. The role
requires strong analytical skills and attention to compliance with the National Credit Act
(NCA). The Loan Officer will play a key role in ensuring quick turnaround times, portfolio
quality, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Origination & Processing
Review online loan applications, verify documentation and information and ensure
completeness.
Conduct affordability assessments based on bank statements, income verification,
and expenditure analysis.
Perform credit checks using credit bureaus and internal scoring systems.
Verify client bank details
Approve, decline, or escalate applications in line with company policies and NCA
requirements.
Portfolio Monitoring & Risk Control
Monitor disbursements and repayments dates via digital platforms.
Flag suspicious applications for fraud review (e.g., mismatched bank details, fake
IDs).
Support collections team by highlighting high-risk accounts or defaults
Compliance & Reporting:
Ensure all loan processes comply with the National Credit Act (NCA), National Credit
Regulator (NCR) guidelines, Financial Intelligence Centre Act (FICA) requirements,
and company credit policies.
Apply Know Your Customer (KYC) and Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC/FICA)
requirements by verifying customer identity, validating supporting documentation,
and identifying potential fraud or suspicious activity.
Maintain accurate electronic records of all loan applications, supporting
documentation, customer verification records, and lending decisions.
Escalate any suspicious transactions or potential compliance breaches in accordance
with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Skills:
Matric
1+ years of experience in consumer lending, microfinance, or fintech environment.
Knowledge of short-term lending practices, affordability checks, and DebiCheck
processes.
Familiarity with credit bureau systems, MIS, and loan management platforms.
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume digital
environment.
