A leading organisation is searching for a Linux Engineer to join their team on a 12-month contract to manage, monitor and enhance its Linux infrastructure. The successful candidate will serve as a Linux subject matter expert, maintain secure and reliable environments, introduce automation and support the broader technical team through knowledge transfer and mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, test and maintain Linux operating systems, applications and system management tools
- Monitor Linux infrastructure proactively to maintain availability, performance and business continuity
- Automate server configuration and repetitive tasks using tools such as Ansible and custom scripts
- Maintain security, backup, redundancy and PCI compliance requirements
- Manage server building, patching, testing and deployment activities
- Identify system and application bottlenecks and work with development teams to implement solutions
- Provide third-level technical support and assist with complex infrastructure incidents
- Maintain technical documentation and engage with technology, software and security vendors
- Mentor team members and transfer Linux knowledge across the technical environment
- Participate in standby support and work after hours when operationally required
Requirements:
- An IT-related degree
- RHCE certification or an equivalent Linux qualification
- At least 5+ years of relevant Linux engineering or infrastructure experience
- Strong Linux administration, scripting, automation and orchestration skills
- Experience with configuration management tools such as Ansible
- Sound knowledge of networking, system security, backups and server performance monitoring
- Unix or Windows experience
