Summary:
The Legal Supervisor will lead legal and regulatory compliance for payments and mobile money operations, ensuring alignment with South African financial regulations, including AML/CFT and data protection requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
– Provide legal advisory on payments, mobile money, and digital financial services
– Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., SARB, FSCA, AML/CFT, POPIA) – Review and draft agreements (merchant, partner, vendor, and service contracts) – Support licensing, regulatory approvals, and engagement with regulators
– Advise on KYC, AML, and transaction monitoring frameworks
– Monitor regulatory changes and provide actionable guidance to the business
– Manage disputes, investigations, and regulatory inquiries
– Collaborate with Compliance, Risk, and Product teams on new offerings
– Supervise junior legal team members where applicable Requirements:
– LLB; admission as an Attorney in South Africa preferred – 5–8 years’ experience in fintech, banking, or financial services (payments experience required) – Strong knowledge of South African regulatory environment (SARB, FSCA, POPIA, AML/CFT) – Proven experience in contract drafting and regulatory advisory
