Position: Legal Advisor – Africa
Location: Kariegasberg
To manage the Legal Department matters relating to the African Region. This comprises Sub-Saharan Africa (excluding South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Eswatini) and North Africa. The role is to provide expert, efficient and cost-effective legal services in all fields of the law (excluding Labour Law) by rendering legal services, giving advice, negotiating disputes, drafting agreements and other documents, participating in internal specialist committees, remaining abreast of the law, providing general legal support to all user areas, by appointing external legal service providers and engaging with authorities, suppliers, contractors, service providers and other parties as required.

Tasks within this Role
Support the African Region in all legal matters, finding effective solutions for the business.
Determine suitable legal entity structures in various African Region markets.
Draft and finalize commercial agreements, including Importer, Distributor, Dealer, and Assembly Agreements, ensuring risks, liabilities, and deliverables are carefully managed.
Provide legal and business advice to ensure compliance with business and Group directives.
Offer legal guidance to ensure compliance with legislation relevant to daily operations.
Stay updated on legal developments, especially within the Motor Industry, to inform internal compliance and training, and report to the Board of Management.
Participate in specialist committees to promote synergies and engage proactively with consultants.
Represent the company in automotive and relevant legal forums, particularly regarding new legislation, while avoiding competition law issues.
Oversee litigation and dispute resolution, working with external legal professionals to minimize negative publicity and protect intellectual property.
Support the Integrity, Risk and Compliance Department as needed.
Identify and present relevant legal training requirements within the business.
Assist in developing training modules related to various fields of law.
Collaborate with Group colleagues and subsidiaries as needed.
Act ethically in all activities to uphold the company’s reputation.
Serve as an office of record for legal matters.
Assist the company as determined.
Qualification Requirements
LLB degree; postgraduate qualifications in commercial law are recommended.
Articles of clerkship or equivalent training.
Admission as an Attorney / Advocate.
Experience Needed
A minimum of 8 to 10 years in commercial law (post-admission) or at least 8 years relevant experience, preferably in the Automotive or related industries.
Strong understanding of corporate, commercial, and contract law, especially Corporate, Competition, Consumer Protection, and Data Protection law.
Knowledge of Intellectual Property legislation (e.g., Trade Marks, Copyright, Design) is advantageous.
Highly analytical with decision-making skills.
Understanding of legislative frameworks affecting the Motor Industry and Business.
Experience with the Automotive Industry, specifically in commercial fields.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and perform under pressure.
High computer literacy and ethical standards.
Ability to find logical and practical legal solutions.
Competence in dealing with cultural diversity.
