Duties/Pligte
Teaching and administration of undergraduate chemical engineering modules.
Execution of fundamental and applied research, focused on the research areas related to reactor engineering and catalytic processes in the context of green chemicals production and
sustainable chemical engineering,
both independently and in collaboration with existing research groups within the Department.
Supervision of final year research projects as well as postgraduate researchers in the research areas listed above.
Technology transfer to the industry and broader community.
Performing support, administrative and representative roles in the Department.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes
For Junior Lecturer:
An applicable four-year bachelor’s degree (such as BEng or BScEng) in chemical engineering, recognised by the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) to qualify for registration as a
professional engineer, from a reputable university and completed in the minimum time.
An appropriate research master’s degree (MEng or MScEng) in chemical engineering, with a research theme related to reactor engineering and catalytic processes in the context of green
chemicals production and sustainable chemical engineering, from a reputable university.
An excellent academic track-record.
The ability and desire to complete a PhD in engineering on a part-time basis within four years.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in at least English.
The ability to teach courses and modules as part of the typical undergraduate chemical engineering programme.
Good interpersonal skills, high emotional intelligence, and the ability to work effectively independently as well as within a team.

For Lecturer, in addition to the requirements for Junior Lecturer:
A doctoral degree in chemical engineering from a reputable university, and previous tertiary teaching experience at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level; OR
At least three years’ technical or research experience in industry in a relevant field of expertise, with a proven ability to plan and conduct projects independently.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
Registration as a professional engineer with ECSA.
Evidence of research outputs such as published peer-reviewed journal articles.
An NRF rating as a young researcher.
