The Short Version

We have 40+ accredited QCTO qualifications built for the classroom. We are converting them into premium self-paced online courses — and we need someone to own that conversion at scale.

This is not a role where you build one course a quarter. You will be running a production line: AI-assisted authoring, a defined design system, and a quality bar that has to hold up to both a QCTO external assessment and a paying learner who has never met a facilitator.

We are now building the next chapter — a digital learning platform that lets a learner complete a full accredited QCTO qualification online, self-paced, without a facilitator in the room. This role is central to making that real.

The Role

You will convert existing classroom-based accredited qualifications into complete, self-paced online learning experiences that learners can finish independently.

That means taking a QCTO curriculum document, a facilitator guide, and a learner workbook — and turning them into a structured online course with content, video, interactivity, assessment, and feedback that genuinely teaches, without a human standing in front of the room.

You will use AI heavily and deliberately as a production tool. We are not looking for someone who is “open to AI.” We are looking for someone who already builds this way and can show us how.

What You’ll Do

Design and build

• Convert QCTO knowledge modules, practical skills modules and work experience modules into online learning journeys — mapping every learning outcome to content, activity and assessment
• Write and structure learner-facing content that works without a facilitator: worked examples, case studies, scenario walkthroughs, and the scaffolding that replaces “ask the trainer”
• Build interactive activities, knowledge checks, simulations and scenario branching
• Script and produce video — including AI-avatar and AI-voiceover production
• Design assessment: formative checks, summative assessments, rubrics, and assessment aligned to EISA readiness

Scale the production line

• Build and improve the templates, design system, prompt library and workflows that let us produce courses faster without dropping the quality bar
• Use AI tooling across drafting, media production, activity generation and QA — and know exactly where the human has to stay in the loop
• Work with subject matter experts and facilitators to extract what they know and get it into the build

Own quality and compliance

• Ensure every course maps cleanly to its QCTO curriculum, SAQA registration and assessment requirements
• Build for accessibility, mobile, and the reality of SA learner bandwidth and devices
• Package, load, test and troubleshoot courses in Moodle — SCORM/xAPI, H5P, gradebook, completion tracking

Measure and improve

• Track completion, drop-off points, assessment performance and learner feedback
• Iterate on the courses that are underperforming, and feed what you learn back into the templates

What Success Looks Like After 12 Months

• A defined, documented production system that anyone we add to the team can work inside
• A meaningful portion of our qualification portfolio live and enrolling learners online
• Learner completion rates on self-paced courses that we are proud to put in a proposal
• Production cost and turnaround time per course materially lower than where we started

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years in instructional design, learning experience design, e-learning development or digital learning content production
• Demonstrated experience converting instructor-led / classroom training into online or blended formats — this is the core of the job
• Strong command of at least one authoring tool: Articulate Storyline / Rise 360, Adobe Captivate, Lectora, Elucidat, iSpring or equivalent
• Hands-on, current use of AI tools in your production workflow — content drafting, video, voice, image, assessment generation, QA. We will ask you to walk us through exactly how you use them
• Working knowledge of an LMS — Moodle strongly preferred — including SCORM/xAPI packaging and troubleshooting
• Solid grounding in learning design fundamentals: ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s, Gagné, adult learning principles, cognitive load — and the judgement to know when to break the rules
• Excellent written English. You will write a great deal of learner-facing content
• A portfolio of digital learning you personally designed and built

Strongly Advantageous

• Experience with QCTO / SETA accredited qualifications — curriculum documents, KM/PM/WM structure, EISA, assessment alignment, moderation
• H5P, Moodle course architecture, or LMS administration
• Video and media production: Camtasia, Descript, Premiere, Vyond, Canva
• AI-avatar and AI-voice platforms: HeyGen, Synthesia, ElevenLabs
• Graphic and UI design capability — you can make it look as good as it teaches
• Experience designing for low-bandwidth, mobile-first or under-resourced learner environments
• Data literacy — comfortable reading learning analytics and acting on them

Remuneration: Market-related and negotiable based on experience and portfolio strength. Range disclosed at first interview.
