Job Description
Sylvan Gardens Landscape Contractors is now hiring Landscape Crew Members and Crew Leaders for our Landscape Maintenance and Landscape Construction/Installation divisions.
Our teams provide a wide range of professional landscape services throughout the Pittsburgh area. Depending on experience, skills, and company needs, team members may work primarily within our Maintenance Division, Construction/Installation Division, or assist across both divisions throughout the season.
Our Maintenance teams provide year-round property care, including mowing, seasonal cleanups, pruning, mulching, planting, property enhancements, and commercial snow removal.
Our Construction/Installation teams build and renovate outdoor spaces through landscape planting, hardscape construction, grading, drainage, turf installation, landscape lighting, and other landscape improvement projects.
All staff are responsible for completing high-quality work while providing our trademark customer service.
What We Offer
- $20–$35/hour starting wage, based on experience, skills, and abilities
- Full-time, year-round work available with no seasonal layoff
- Snow Compensation: Monday–Saturday 1.5x regular rate, Sunday 1.75x, Holidays 2x regular rate
- Quarterly Bonus Program: Performance-based distributions ranging from approximately $250–$2,500 per period

What You’ll Do
Responsibilities will vary depending on whether you are assigned to our Landscape Maintenance or Landscape Construction/Installation team and may include:
Landscape Maintenance
- Operate commercial mowing, trimming, edging, and blowing equipment
- Perform weeding, mulching, pruning, and general landscape detail work
- Complete spring and fall cleanups and seasonal property maintenance
- Install and maintain trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and other plant material
- Assist with turf repair, seeding, and other lawn improvement work
- Perform commercial snow removal, including shoveling and application of snow-melting products
Landscape Construction & Installation
- Install trees, shrubs, perennials, lawns, and other landscape materials
- Construct patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps, and other hardscape features
- Assist with grading, excavation, drainage, and site preparation
- Install landscape lighting and other outdoor improvements
- Operate landscape construction equipment and power tools based on experience and training
- Load, unload, move, and install stone, soil, plants, pavers, and other landscape materials
General Responsibilities
- Maintain crew trucks, tools, and equipment
- Follow company safety procedures and properly use required PPE
- Maintain clean and organized jobsites
- Work effectively as part of a crew to complete projects efficiently and to company standards
- Perform other seasonally dependent landscape responsibilities as needed
What We Need
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and changing seasonal conditions
- Ability to lift 30 pounds regularly
- Ability to safely lift up to 80 pounds occasionally
- Ability and willingness to learn to operate powered landscape and construction equipment
- Commitment to company safety standards and regular use of personal protective equipment
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn
- Valid driver’s license
- Prior landscape maintenance, construction, hardscape, equipment operation, or snow removal experience is a plus, but hands-on training is available for motivated newcomers
