Retail Key Account Manager – Johannesburg

We are looking for a driven and commercially minded Retail Key Account Manager to join our Johannesburg team. The ideal candidate will have proven experience managing large retail accounts, strong relationships with general merchandise retail buyers, and a solid understanding of the consumer electronics landscape.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales and Strategy

  • Manage and grow strategic retail key accounts
  • Develop and execute account strategies aligned to company sales objectives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and retail buyers
  • Prepare annual budgets, sales forecasts, and account plans across relevant brands and product categories
  • Identify growth opportunities and implement strategies to maximise sales performance
  • Negotiate and execute commercial deals to optimise revenue, profitability, and market share
  • Expand product listings and portfolio presence within key accounts
  • Monitor sales performance and analyse trends to identify opportunities and risks
  • Investigate lost sales opportunities and implement corrective action plans
  • Forecast annual, quarterly, and monthly sales revenue
  • Maintain inventory control
  • Conduct market, customer, and competitor analysis to support strategic decision-making
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute impactful promotional campaigns with measurable ROI
  • Ensure effective stock planning and inventory management in collaboration with internal teams

Account Management & Relationship Building

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned retail accounts
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships with customers through proactive engagement and service delivery
  • Drive account performance to meet and exceed agreed sales and profitability targets
  • Take ownership of account profitability, growth, and overall commercial performance
  • Monitor account performance regularly and implement action plans where required
  • Maintain strong knowledge of customer strategies, business operations, competitors, and market conditions
  • Anticipate customer needs and align internal support to deliver effective solutions
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure excellent execution across all touchpoints
  • Provide valuable insights and recommendations that contribute to the customer’s competitive advantage
  • Conduct regular head office meetings and in-store visits to maintain strong customer engagement
  • Work closely with Procurement, Marketing, Finance and Technical teams to achieve shared business objectives

Requirements & Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in retail sales or key account management
  • Established relationships with retail buyers within Gauteng
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical ability
  • Proven experience in sales forecasting, budgeting, and account planning
  • Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
  • Strong understanding of consumer electronics and accessories
  • Advanced computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and reporting skills
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities
  • Self-motivated, professional, and results-driven
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
