Role Overview

Our client in the renewable energy sector is seeking a Key Account Assistant to join their Account Management team, based in Sandton. This role is suited to a highly analytical and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a commercially driven, fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will support key account activities across tender coordination, commercial analysis, and client engagement. You will play a critical role in managing complex bid processes, maintaining strong client relationships, and delivering data-driven insights that support strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate combines strong logical thinking, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to operate effectively within high-value procurement and project environments.

Key Responsibilities

Tender & Bid Management:

  • Support the end-to-end preparation, coordination, and submission of complex tenders (RFPs, RFQs, EOIs).
  • Ensure all submissions meet strict client requirements, including technical specifications, commercial terms, and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal technical, financial, and operational teams to compile accurate and competitive proposals.

Commercial & Negotiation Support:

  • Assist the Key Account Manager in supplier, vendor, and client negotiations to achieve favorable commercial outcomes.
  • Prepare formal correspondence, pricing justifications, and contract-related documentation.
  • Support the resolution of procurement and contract delivery challenges, including hardware pricing and supply constraints.

Data Analysis & Reporting (Advanced Excel):

  • Use advanced Excel functions (e.g. PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas) to analyse pricing, project costs, and financial performance.
  • Maintain and update detailed tracking tools for project deliverables, logistics, and payment milestones (e.g. deposits, escrow releases).
  • Generate insights to support pricing strategy and account performance optimization.

Problem Solving & Operational Support:

  • Apply structured, logical thinking to assess risks, evaluate vendor proposals, and improve account processes.
  • Translate complex project requirements into clear, actionable plans.
  • Proactively identify potential delays or operational risks and recommend practical solutions.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred
  • Experience: 2–5 years’ experience in account support, procurement, project coordination, or a commercial/tendering environment
  • Tender & Commercial Knowledge: Solid understanding of formal tender processes (RFPs, RFQs, EOIs), compliance requirements, and bid documentation
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and complex formulas
  • Experience working with large datasets and building pricing or financial models
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Ability: Strong logical reasoning and critical thinking skills, with the ability to interpret complex technical and commercial information
  • Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Clear and professional written and verbal communication, with the ability to support negotiations and engage with internal and external stakeholders
  • Organisation & Time Management: Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail in a fast-paced environment

  • Experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, or engineering projects
  • Exposure to procurement systems or ERP platforms
  • Basic understanding of contracts, pricing structures, or project finance
