Role Description

This is an internship position for a Junior Data Analyst based on-site in Cape Town. The Junior Data Analyst will assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing financial data to support business decisions. Day-to-day tasks include preparing reports, generating insights, maintaining databases, and collaborating with various teams to ensure data accuracy and usability. This role provides hands-on experience in the financial services industry and offers exposure to optimization and investment strategies.

Qualifications : BCom in Information Management (Information Systems & Management) or a related field. Honours an advantage

Experience:

0 to 2 years’ relevant experience in the Financial Services industry advantageous 

Purpose of job:

The Junior Data Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and

maintaining data integrity within the data warehouse (including 

incoming data mapping), supporting internal and external reporting

requirements along with assisting in system enhancements.

This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and 

the ability to improve data-related processes continuously.

Other key relationships:

·     Establish and maintain strong relationships with external Asset Managers and Investment Administrators to facilitate seamless data integration.

·     Internal divisions such as Analytics and Invest.

·     Systems Development Team and external systems development companies.

Key competencies:

·         Strong reconciliation skills 

·         Strong numeric and analytical ability.

·         Interpret, analyse and able to handle large quantities of data.

·         Attention to detail and have a methodical approach to own work.

·         Ability to plan for and meet own deadlines. 

·         Able to work independently but also be a team player.

·         Use initiative, be pro-active and with problem solving abilities

·         Liaising with external auditors and fund administrators. 

·         Thinks in a structured way and can document processes. 

·         Quick learner.

·         Attention to detail.

·         Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

·         Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel. 

·         Willing to put in long hours when needed.

Monthly/daily tasks:

Data Monitoring & Issue Resolution:

·     Map external data to internal data warehousing requirements.

·     Monitor automated internal and external data loads into the data warehouse and resolve any issues.

·     Enrich data with relevant information required for internal and external client reporting.

·     Run data audits and address any inconsistencies or errors.

·     Perform data clean-ups to ensure accuracy and consistency.

Data Extraction & Reporting:

·     Extract and provide data files for client reporting systems.

·     Generate ad hoc reports for internal and external stakeholders as needed.

·     Support month-end and quarter-end client reporting processes

·     Ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports to meet compliance and client expectations.

Client Query Resolution & Process Improvement:

·     Address and resolve client queries related to data discrepancies.

·     Continuously review, document, and enhance data-related processes to improve efficiency.

·     Maintain comprehensive documentation of “as-is” analysis and process workflows.

System Development & Compliance:

·     Analyse business requirements to improve system functionality.

·     Write detailed specifications for system enhancements and data processes.

·     Conduct testing and validate developments before implementation.

·     Sign off on system improvements ensuring alignment with business needs.

·     Ensure daily compliance for Funds, adhering to regulatory requirements.
