About the Role/Client.
Client is a dynamic and fast-paced creative media agency, working with top-tier agencies and clients to deliver impactful media campaigns—especially across radio and audio platforms. As a small and agile team, they value detail, initiative, and the ability to juggle multiple responsibilities in a deadline-driven environment.
They are seeking a hands-on Bookkeeper who can manage full financial functions, oversee debt collection, and take responsibility for Campaign Reconciliations—ensuring accurate tracking of media budgets billed to Client vs. overall campaign budgets.
Key Responsibilities:
Bookkeeping:
Full bookkeeping and accounting function up to Trial Balance (Debtors, Creditors, Bank, Petty Cash, Journals).
Monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
VAT calculations, VAT201 submissions and reconciliations.
Assistance with Provisional and Income Tax submissions.
Maintenance of SARS accounts and compliance with SARS requirements (VAT, PAYE, etc.).
Import cost tracking and basic stock control (where applicable).
Working knowledge of SARS efiling and liaising with SARS where needed.
Liaison with agencies and suppliers regarding financial matters.
Campaign Reconciliation (Media Budgeting):
Perform campaign financial reconciliations post-implementation.
Match client/agency media budgets against amounts billed to Client.
Work with project managers to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate reporting.
Maintain reconciliation schedules and update records in real time.
Provide monthly recon reports for internal and client audit purposes.
Debt Collection:
Track and follow up on outstanding client payments.
Engage professionally with clients to negotiate payoff deadlines and payment plans.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date debtor records and account statuses.
Escalate accounts for legal action where necessary, while remaining compliant with credit control regulations.
Identify gaps in the current collections process and recommend improvements.
Requirements:
BCom in Financial Accounting or similar qualification.
Professional certification (SAIPA/SAICA/ICB) is an advantage.
Minimum 1 year post-articles experience in a similar role.
Previous experience in an agency or accounting practice setting is highly beneficial.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g. Sage, QuickBooks, or similar).
Advanced Excel skills.
Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, and SARS compliance procedures.
