Role Description The Junior Bookkeeper will support the finance function by recording daily financial transactions, maintaining accurate ledgers, and assisting with reconciliations and basic reporting. Typical responsibilities include capturing invoices, processing payments, reconciling bank and credit card accounts, and ensuring that records are up to date and properly filed. The role also involves assisting with month-end processes, preparing supporting documentation for audits or reviews, and communicating with internal team members and external suppliers regarding payments and queries. This is a full-time hybrid role based in Durban, with work primarily performed on site and some work-from-home flexibility as agreed with the manager.

Qualifications

  • Foundational bookkeeping skills, including recording transactions, maintaining ledgers, and performing bank reconciliations.
  • Comfort with accounting or bookkeeping software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to follow established financial procedures.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and suppliers.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a structured environment.
  • Relevant qualification or coursework in Accounting, Finance, or Bookkeeping; a completed certificate or diploma is an advantage.
  • Willingness to learn, take guidance, and grow into more advanced bookkeeping responsibilities.
  • Previous internship or entry-level experience in a finance or bookkeeping role is beneficial but not strictly required.
