Job Title: Jolly Literacy Hub Activity Co-ordinator
Hours: Part-time
Reporting to: South Africa Country Director

Universal Learning Solutions is a not-for-profit organisation that works with government, educators, donors and experts in South Africa to provide bespoke services that deliver innovative literacy solutions.
Our work enables and enthuses teachers to deliver high quality literacy tuition and builds the institutional capacity of partners through knowledge and skills transfer. This gives children of all abilities the skills needed to read and write and helps South Africa meet their global education targets.

Primary Role
This is an exciting new role that will involve Working to reach the most disadvantaged groups, the role will include the delivery of Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar workshops to government schoolteachers; out of school clubs for pupils and parents and regular engagement with other local stakeholders to help ensure the project reaches those in need.
Key Responsibilities:
Organise a diverse calendar of community-level Jolly Phonics initiatives to support teachers and parents to better understand the potential of Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar
Provide support, guidance and encouragement to teachers and parents via telephone and online platforms as and when needed
Establish and run out-of-school literacy clubs for children and parents
Work with the Jolly Literacy Hub Manager to support the day-to-day management of the centre
Collaborate closely with our partners in the Western Cape Education Department to ensure that the project enhances the learning outcomes of their pupils
Support senior management in compiling project reports
Attend training as and when required to help develop key skills including: using the Jolly Phonics app, marketing of training, business development etc.
Co-operate generally with all representatives and staff of the Company and accept instructions from Universal Learning Solutions in the UK, and Country Staff in South Africa
Comply with all relevant laws, regulatory requirements and codes of conduct
Represent and uphold the values of ULS by always conducting yourself in a professional manner
Personal Skills
Outstanding knowledge of Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
Confident and engaging training style
Willing to work effectively with a varied team of trainers and support staff from all over the world
Ability to operate successfully in difficult field conditions
Willingness to travel to and work in remote areas for up to ten days
Ability to gain respect among local staff, local community leaders as well as local government ministries
Willingness to attend train the trainer events in order to build personal training capacity
Excellent interpersonal skills
Capacity to listen well and inspire trust
Qualifications and Experience
We will require candidates to be qualified in the majority of points below:
Qualified primary school teacher
Minimum of three years’ experience teaching Jolly Phonics
Strong understanding of Jolly Phonics
Understanding of working with organisations from varying cultures and backgrounds
Resourceful and well organised
