SUMMARY:
The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of the organisation’s IT infrastructure. This includes servers, networks, hardware, software, and related systems. The role ensures optimal system performance, security, and availability while supporting end-users and driving continuous improvement across IT operations.

Key Responsibilities
Systems Administration & Maintenance
- Monitor and maintain IT systems to ensure optimal performance and uptime
- Perform routine system updates, patches, and security fixes
- Implement monitoring tools to proactively detect and resolve system issues
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and system-related problems
Network Administration
- Configure and maintain network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues
- Implement network security controls to safeguard organisational data
Server Administration
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows and Linux servers
- Manage Active Directory, user accounts, permissions, and access control
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery systems to ensure data integrity
Software Deployment & Support
- Deploy and maintain software applications across the organisation
- Provide technical support to end-users (first and second line support)
- Liaise with vendors to resolve complex software issues
Security Management
- Implement IT security policies and best practices
- Conduct regular system and security audits
- Identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions
- Stay updated on cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate IT system documentation and configurations
- Document procedures, troubleshooting steps, and system changes
- Provide technical training and guidance to users where required
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with external vendors for procurement and support services
- Manage escalations related to IT systems and services
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve IT systems, processes, and automation
- Participate in IT projects including upgrades and system implementations
- Contribute to improving service delivery and operational efficiency
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
- Proven experience in a Systems Administrator or similar IT infrastructure role
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, and systems administration
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Knowledge of DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and server management
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware / Hyper-V)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure / Google Workspace)
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g. Zabbix, Nagios, SolarWinds, ManageEngine OpManager)
Competencies
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Good communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities
Advantageous Certifications
- Google Workspace Administrator Certification
- Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) or equivalent
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Linux+
