Role Overview
The Infrastructure and Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting customer and internal infrastructure platforms within a managed services environment. The role includes operational support, proactive monitoring, project delivery, participation in standby rotations, and assisting with customer and internal audit requirements, while ensuring all technical actions and resolutions are clearly documented.
Please note: This is a hybrid position, with a combination of remote work and regular attendance at our Midrand offices.

Key Responsibilities
Infrastructure and Platform Operations
- Design, implement, manage, and support physical and virtual server environments across customer platforms.
- Perform ongoing server administration, including capacity management, performance tuning, and lifecycle management.
- Implement and maintain server hardening aligned with CIS benchmarks and approved security baselines.
- Plan, schedule, and execute operating system and platform patching in line with change management processes.
- Ensure platform availability, resilience, and performance meet agreed SLAs.
Monitoring and Alerting
- Configure, maintain, and respond to infrastructure monitoring and alerting systems.
- Proactively investigate alerts, identify root causes, and implement preventative measures.
- Ensure monitoring coverage aligns with SLA, availability, and performance requirements.
Incident Resolution and Documentation
- Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for infrastructure and platform incidents.
- Ensure all incidents, tasks, and service requests are logged, updated, and resolved within the service management platform.
- Document detailed troubleshooting steps, actions taken, resolutions, and preventative recommendations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date configuration and operational documentation.
Projects and Change Delivery
- Participate in and lead approved customer and internal projects, including infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and platform improvements.
- Produce project designs, implementation plans, testing evidence, and handover documentation.
- Execute changes in accordance with change management and CAB processes.
Auditing and Governance
- Assist with customer and internal audits, assessments, and evidence collection.
- Support remediation of audit findings and ensure alignment with documented standards, policies, and best practices.
- Ensure operational activities support compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 and related standards.
Managed Services Operations and Standby
- Participate in an on-call / standby rotation, including after-hours, weekends, and public holidays when required.
- Respond to critical incidents during standby periods in line with escalation and response procedures.
- Collaborate with service desk, network, security, and end-user teams to ensure effective service delivery.
Required Skills and Experience
- 4+ years’ experience in infrastructure, server, or platform engineering roles (MSP experience preferred).
- Strong experience managing Windows and/or Linux server environments.
- Proven experience with server patching, vulnerability remediation, and hardening standards (CIS).
- Experience with virtualisation platforms, storage, and backup solutions.
- Experience supporting cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or similar).
- Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and documentation skills.
Certifications (Advantageous)
- VMware, Microsoft Azure, or relevant infrastructure certifications
- ITIL Foundation
- Exposure to ISO 27001 or similar governance frameworks
- Exposure to CIS benchmarks
