About our client

Our client is a luxury adventure travel company operating exclusive expeditions from Cape Town. They’re looking for an HR Generalist to be a trusted partner to both employees and leadership across the full employee lifecycle for their Cape Town-based team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll manage recruitment, performance, compliance, and employee relations while ensuring people processes run smoothly and in full compliance with South African labour legislation.

What the job involves

  • Managing full-cycle recruitment — job profiling, advertising, interviewing, offer management, and onboarding
  • Drafting and submitting Employment Equity plans and annual reports to the Department of Employment and Labour
  • Managing Skills Development submissions (WSP/ATR), SDF duties, learnerships, and bursary administration
  • Implementing and managing performance frameworks (KPA/KPI), review cycles, and poor performance processes
  • Administering payroll systems (Sage 300, Pay Space, VIP), leave management, and benefits
  • Handling Employee Relations matters — disciplinary hearings, grievances, CCMA conciliation and arbitration, and documentation
  • Maintaining accurate employee records, HR reporting, job descriptions, policies, and procedure manuals
  • Managing onboarding and offboarding, including exit interviews and termination processes
  • Advising line managers and leadership on IR matters, performance frameworks, and Employment Equity obligations

What you need to be considered

  • 5+ years’ HR experience in South Africa (with exposure to the full HR lifecycle)
  • A background in hospitality or tourism is preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, EEA, SDA, OHSA, POPIA, COIDA)
  • Solid knowledge of IR/ER processes and CCMA procedures
  • Experience with payroll systems and benefits administration
  • Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel for HR reporting) and an HRIS system
  • A warm, adaptable, people-first approach — comfortable with unpredictable days and shifting priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to advise and influence line managers and senior leadership
  • High level of confidentiality and ethical conduct
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial/Organisational Psychology, Business Administration, or related field

Bonus points if you

  • Have Skills Development Facilitator (SDF) accreditation
  • Have a Certificate in Payroll Administration (SAGE, VIP/Pastel Payroll)
  • Have COIDA knowledge certification
  • Have experience in a growing or fast-paced business environment
