Minimum Requirements
- Registration: Valid registration as a Safety Officer with the SACPCMP (South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions) is essential.
- Qualifications: Relevant Health and Safety certificates, diploma, or degree (such as SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or Safety Management).
- Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of dedicated safety experience specifically within the civil engineering or general construction industry.
- Legislation: Deep knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act) and Construction Regulations.
- Transport: Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle, as the role often requires traveling between multiple sites across Cape Town.
Key Responsibilities
- Compliance: Enforce company safety policies and ensure full statutory compliance on civil construction sites.
- Audits & Inspections: Conduct routine site safety audits, risk assessments, and daily safety inspections.
- Subcontractors: Review and approve subcontractor HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) files and manage their compliance.
- Training: Facilitate daily toolbox talks, safety inductions, and ongoing HSE training for site personnel.
- Incidents: Lead accident and incident investigations and implement preventative measures.
- Reporting: Compile and submit weekly and monthly health and safety statistics and reports to management
