Head of Lending
A high-growth South African fintech is seeking an exceptional Lending Business Lead to build, own, and scale a next-generation lending business.
This is not a traditional lending role.
This is an opportunity for a commercially minded lending expert to take ownership of an end-to-end lending operation, shape credit strategy, influence product development, drive portfolio performance, and ultimately build a market-leading lending business from the ground up.

What You’ll Own
✅ Lead the end-to-end lending business across consumer and SME lending
✅ Own credit strategy, underwriting standards, scoring, affordability assessment, and risk management
✅ Drive portfolio performance, collections strategy, provisioning, and loss forecasting
✅ Partner closely with Product, Data, and Engineering teams to shape and scale lending solutions
✅ Manage funding capacity and optimise book growth against available capital
✅ Establish governance, reporting, and performance frameworks
✅ Build and lead a high-performing lending team as the business scales
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who has successfully operated at the intersection of:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field, CA(SA), FRM or FA advantageous
- Lending experience
- Credit Risk understanding
- Commercial Strategy
- Product Ownership
- Fintech Innovation
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Significant experience owning or leading a lending business, lending P&L, or major lending portfolio
- Deep knowledge of both consumer and business lending
- Strong expertise in credit risk, underwriting, portfolio management, and collections
- Experience working within fintech, digital banking, alternative lending, or technology-driven financial services
- A builder’s mindset with the ability to operate effectively in fast-changing environments
- Understanding of the South African credit landscape and regulatory environment
