Overview

Hardworking, creative problem solver for furniture retail warehouse driver role Jobs in Indianapolis, IN at Confidential

Did this title get your attention? Are you interested in working at a job with a lot of variety? We hope so! Before we get into the details of this job, let’s start with the basics.

The bare minimum qualifications for the job:

  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and a clean MVR (less than 6 points)
  • You must also pass a background check with no charges of theft, violence, or sexual assault in the last 10 years
  • You need to be able to lift up to 50-lbs alone or more with assistance (moving equipment and team lift) to move furniture through a warehouse or someone’s house (multiple sets of stairs may be involved)
  • You should have at least 2 years of in-person customer service experience and at least 1 year of relevant delivery driver experience. (delivery with large vehicles like cargo vans, sprinter vans, or box trucks is what we consider relevant driving experience)

The important stuff you should know:

  • Type of work: This isn’t your average delivery (or even warehouse) job. In fact, we bet you haven’t done anything like it before (and if you have, you’ll get some bonus points). You should thoroughly enjoy working with people and interacting with customers in our storefront or their home.
  • Location: Must be able to commute to the west side of Indianapolis
  • Pay: The pay is $18 – 20/hour. It’s a range based on your qualifications and fit for the job.
  • Hours: This is a full-time position. 40 hours, 5 days a week, day shift. One of those days will be Saturday.

If you got through this section and thought “that isn’t for me”, then hopefully you continue your job hunt without us. We wish you the best of luck in finding the job that fits your experience and needs!

If you thought, “this sounds good”, then let’s dive into more details!

The details:

This is not a normal warehouse role where you only pick product or drive a forklift. It’s also not a typical delivery role where you leave a package at someone’s door and run to the next stop.

We’re looking for someone who thoroughly enjoys interacting with people, figuring out the best solution rather than being told what to do (within reason), and can physically move heavy stuff (furniture and appliances) around a warehouse and within someone’s home (with tools and assistance).

Your time is split between working in our retail/warehouse space and being on the truck for deliveries.

  • On the truck you’ll provide exceptional customer service while safely maneuvering various furniture items throughout customer homes.
  • When you’re in the store, you could be doing a variety of tasks. Between unloading the truck, assembling furniture, and preparing items for the floor, you’ll also be helping our customers, merchandising, and helping to keep the warehouse clean and organized.

Here are the duties in bullet points:

  • Provide excellent customer service when interacting with customers on-site and during deliveries
  • Operate a 16-ft box truck to safely transport furniture and various home goods items
  • Load and unload product, ensuring items are handled respectfully and securely
  • Manage inventory, stock, prepare product for display
  • Provide best-in-class customer service for our shoppers
  • Solve problems independently with creativity and good judgment
  • Work effectively alone and in a team environment
  • Receive and apply feedback to improve customer service, delivery routes, and warehouse duties

What’s in it for you?

  • Day shift hours with a set schedule
  • Employee discount
  • Full benefits package – Medical, dental, vision, PTO, and more
  • $18-20/hour, depending on experience
  • A work environment that treats you like a person and not a number

Who are we looking for? Besides our bare minimum qualifications listed above, our ideal candidate should:

  • First and foremost – thoroughly enjoy interacting with other people; customers in the store, customers in their home, your coworkers, your boss. If you want to work alone, this isn’t the job for you.
  • Have a strong work ethic; someone who can stay busy working on meaningful tasks. Can you work on something that helps rather than sweeping the floor to look busy?
  • Take initiative and stay reasonably busy. There’s no lack of tasks to be completed, can you figure out what to tackle next without being told?
  • Be a little clever and creative with problem solving when there isn’t a clear answer. There are many ways to solve a problem, can you find the best option for the current situation?
  • Be comfortable and experienced driving big trucks (cargo vans, sprinter vans, box trucks) along with unloading them by hand, with dollies, or with pallet jacks.

After reading more, do you want to apply? Is this a role you’re interested in and excited about?

  • “No this doesn’t sound like a good fit” – No worries! Best of luck in your search!
  • “Yes, I think I would enjoy this “ – Great, we hope you apply!

Pro-tip for applying: Please review your resume before submitting. After a recent Indeed update, many applications left out important work experience, dates, and even phone numbers. Don’t be the person who attaches a resume with nothing on it. Attach a resume that really shows your relevant experience and updated contact info instead!
