This is a hands-on hardware repair position working with both mobile devices and computers.
We are looking for someone who already has real experience opening, repairing, upgrading, or disassembling phones/tablets and computers. That experience can come from a professional job, freelance work, school, or your own hobby projects — but you must be comfortable physically working on both types of hardware.
If your experience is only with computers or only with phones/tablets, this is not the right role.
Who We Are
Excess IT Hardware (EIH) is an electronics refurbishment and recycling company serving businesses across the U.S. We process high volumes of computers, laptops, servers, phones, tablets, and other electronics — testing, repairing, disassembling, wiping, grading, and preparing equipment for resale or responsible recycling.
We are a small, growing team in West Palm Beach and are looking for someone who can become a long-term part of our technical operation.
What You Will Do
- Diagnose and repair smartphones and tablets
- Replace common mobile device components such as screens, batteries, charging ports, cameras, buttons, and other internal parts
- Safely open and reassemble phones and tablets without damaging housings, cables, connectors, or components
- Diagnose and work on desktops, laptops, and servers
- Disassemble computers and remove components including RAM, storage drives, CPUs, batteries, power supplies, and other hardware
- Identify computer components and hardware specifications
- Use software tools to test, wipe, and verify storage devices
- Perform functional testing and quality checks on repaired or processed equipment
- Log equipment details, repair results, and other information into our inventory system
- Clean, grade, and stage equipment for resale or recycling
- Follow ESD safety procedures and proper electronics handling practices
- Support general warehouse and production tasks as needed
- Lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs when required
What We Are Looking For
Hands-on experience with BOTH mobile device repair and computer hardware is required.
Your experience does not need to come from a traditional IT job. Hobby, freelance, school, and professional experience can all qualify if you genuinely know how to work on the hardware.
You should be comfortable with tasks such as:
- Opening and repairing smartphones and tablets
- Replacing screens, batteries, and other mobile device components
- Working with small screws, flex cables, connectors, adhesives, and delicate internal components
- Troubleshooting hardware problems and determining whether a device or component is repairable
- Opening, upgrading, repairing, and disassembling desktop and laptop computers
- Identifying RAM and common RAM generations
- Distinguishing HDDs, SATA SSDs, M.2 SATA drives, and NVMe drives
- Recognizing common motherboard components and connectors
- Installing and removing computer components without damaging them
You also need:
- Strong attention to detail
- Good hand-eye coordination and comfort working with small components
- Ability to work independently after training
- Ability to maintain both quality and speed in a production environment
- Willingness to learn our testing, grading, inventory, and processing procedures
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Ability to pass a full background check
Preferred — Nice to Have
- Professional smartphone or tablet repair experience
- Experience repairing iPhones, iPads, Samsung Galaxy devices, or other common mobile devices
- Microsoldering or board-level repair experience
- Experience in electronics refurbishment, ITAD, e-waste, computer repair, or electronics recycling
- Experience testing and grading used electronics for resale
Compensation & Employment Structure
- $20.00/hour
- Position begins as an independent contractor
- The intention is to transition the successful candidate to a full-time employee, based on performance, reliability, attendance, and overall fit
