Job Description

Main Purpose:

To support and contribute to the growth of the GES practice, focusing on client delivery, business development and practice management.
To provide excellent client service and robust and practical tax advice on individual tax compliance and advisory matters.
Focus on the efficient management and delivery of client engagements, including the risk processes.
Develop high-performing talent and teams by providing your sound GES knowledge and experience.
Building relationships with relevant industry bodies.
Identifies and embraces our purpose and values and puts these into practice in professional life.

Key Responsibilities:

Translates broader strategy into a compelling team vision and goals; aligns the team and sets priorities to achieve objectives.
Clearly communicates direction to team(s) in line with overall Global, Business and Member Firm strategies.
Acts as advanced Subject Matter Expert (SME) of the key capabilities required to deliver a high-quality service experience to the client
Provides quality service delivery by leveraging the right firm resources assigned to the engagement/project.
Provides subject matter expertise in current tax legislation, proposed/pending legislation, their implications, and understands interaction across the Global Tax and Legal function, specifically with their area of expertise.
Demonstrates deep knowledge in area of specialization and is recognized as a tax subject matter expert in selected area of specialization and is a thought leader on how the client’s needs can be met by applying appropriate solutions.
Leads client projects and solves complex technical/business issues through innovative approaches while providing direction to others.
Takes responsibility for accuracy and content of written technical advice, reports, memoranda, and other deliverables relevant to tax laws and rules.
Applies recent developments and changes relating to relevant tax practices, rules, and regulations to the client’s business.
Anticipates changes in tax laws and provides advice on the implications for clients.
Expert knowledge of South African (SA) tax legislation, SA tax landscape and tax policy, including related regulations, rulings, case law
Identifies emerging market trends, anticipates client needs and evaluates advances in technology.
Recommends innovative ways to leverage technology and automate client processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

B Com or equivalent qualification and H Dip Tax qualification or equivalent post-grad qualification

Desired Qualifications

Postgraduate qualification in Taxation (Honours or Masters)

Minimum Experience

A minimum of 6 years’ experience in a client service role
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a management capacity, managing a team, client base and WIP
A minimum of 8 years’ individual tax compliance experience
A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with High Net Worth Individuals
Experience dealing with the South African Revenue Service

Technical Competencies

GES Consulting – Applies in-depth knowledge of domestic tax laws in field to provide strategic solutions to clients’ tax needs and enable clients to maximise tax opportunities. Applies industry expertise and global tax precedents in field to client projects. Develops knowledge of current tax legislation across the Global Tax and Legal function
Tax Compliance – Sound knowledge of tax compliance processes, including SARS’ e-filing systems
Trusts – Sound knowledge of trust legislation pertaining to individuals
Interest-free loans – sound knowledge of legislation pertaining to interest-free loans (s7C / s31)
Double Taxation Agreements (DTA) – sound knowledge of the application of DTAs
Products to Market – Incorporates in-depth knowledge of tax into client sales opportunities
Tax Authority Relationship Management – Handles tax dispute processes with tax authorities, including tax audits
Sound knowledge of tax laws
Delivery Excellence
Acts as advanced Subject Matter Expert (SME) of the key capabilities required to deliver a high-quality service experience to the client
