Role Description
KBC Health & Safety is expanding its operational footprint across Africa and is seeking an experienced General Manager (SA) to lead multi-country project delivery across the mining and industrial sectors.
The General Manager is responsible for the performance of the South African business, integrating Sales and Operations to drive sustainable revenue growth, operational excellence, and client satisfaction. This role ensures alignment between commercial strategy and execution, delivering profitable growth while maintaining high standards of service delivery, compliance, and team performance. This is a senior operational leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, high-quality project execution across South African markets while supporting the continued growth of KBC’s regional operations.
Reporting Lines
- Commercial Director
- Works closely with: CEO and HSE Lead to align sales with delivery capacity and gather client feedback.
- Direct reports: Operations Manager
Role Responsibility includes:
Commercial and Sales Leadership
- Drive achievement of revenue, margin, and growth targets across all regions.
- Support the Commercial Director in executing national growth strategy.
- Translate commercial strategy into practical sales execution plans.
- Lead and mentor the Sales function (Sales Managers & BDMs).
- Build and maintain key client relationships, especially in mining and manufacturing sectors.
- Identify new market opportunities, partnerships, and service offerings.
- Oversee pipeline management, forecasting accuracy, and conversion rates.
Operational Leadership
- Oversee national operations including training delivery, onboarding, and compliance services.
- Ensure efficient resource planning, facilitator utilisation, and scheduling.
- Drive standardisation of delivery and adherence to quality and ISO systems.
- Monitor operational KPIs: delivery timelines, client satisfaction, rework, and cost control.
- Collaborate with L&D to ensure product relevance and quality.
Integration of Sales & Operations
- Align Sales commitments with operational capacity and delivery capability.
- Ensure seamless handover from sales to delivery.
- Drive a customer-centric approach across the full client lifecycle
- Resolve bottlenecks between departments quickly and effectively
Financial Performance
- Manage P&L performance for South Africa.
- Manage budgets, cost controls, and margin improvement initiatives
- Track and report on financial performance against targets.
- Drive operational efficiencies to improve profitability.
Leadership and People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop Sales and Operations teams.
- Build a high-performance, accountable culture.
- Support leadership development of direct reports (Sales Leaders, Ops Managers).
- Address performance issues decisively and constructively.
- Drive employee engagement and retention.
Experience Required:
- Degree in Business Management or Commerce
- 8–12 years in management and leadership experience
- Proven track record of Managing Budget and Sales Targets
- Background in mining, industrial services, safety, compliance, or training environments
- Strong project execution, operational governance, and financial oversight capability
- Own vehicle
