Job Title: Furnace Operator – Cape Town
Main Job Purpose
Operating the glass tempering/toughening furnace, ensuring that production and quality targets are met.
Principal Responsibilities
Read and measure incoming glass accurately with a tape measure
Inspect all incoming glass for irregular breaks, scratches and uneven edges.
Review process instructions in the job card and drawings
Perform routine maintenance on the furnace (cleaning the rollers) before toughening
Start machine to verify setups and adjust machine controls to alter temperature, alignment, speed and pressure as per glass type
Toughen glass according to daily production plan received from the supervisor
Properly make substance changes and convection adjustments to tempering furnace when needed without causing quality issues
Read and fill out proper documentation (hard copies and electronically)
Observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices or conditions.
Maintain daily production record such as quantity, dimensions, square meters, cubic meters and material type by means of a standardised production sheet
Scan and confirm every good glass before sending to the next station and scrap rejected glass in order to make replacement
Put the right stamp/logo at the right position on the glass before toughening as per customer product specifications
Ensure that the work is done according to the furnace standard operating procedure
Sign off job card after completing the job
Ensure that glass test pieces are toughened every 1 hour as well as when switching to a new substance
Maintain a safe, clean and organized area at all times
Properly handle all chemical within safety guidelines
Help out with other production/operations duties depending on glass production requirements
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Matric
Experience
1 year glass processing experience
SAP
Skills
High sense of emergency
Good analytical and numerical skills
Computer literacy
Ability to rea, understand and understand 2D drawings
Proficient un the proper use of precision measuring equipment
Basic understanding of the mechanical/ electrical operating system of a cutting machine
