Location: Empangeni
Our client is looking for a Forester to join their team in Richards Bay.
The Forester is responsible for managing, conserving, and protecting forests, woodlands, and natural habitats. This role involves planning and implementing sustainable forestry practices, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and promoting biodiversity.
Minimum Requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
Relevant certifications in forestry or environmental conservation (if applicable).
5 years of experience in forestry, land management, or conservation.
Knowledge of forestry legislation, policies, and best practices.
Experience with GIS and remote sensing tools is an advantage.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Ability to work in remote and physically demanding environments.
Project management and report-writing skills.
Proficiency in data collection, research, and monitoring techniques.
Fieldwork in forests, plantations, or protected areas.
Office-based tasks, including data analysis and report preparation.
Potential travel for community engagement and stakeholder meetings.
Key Responsibilities :
Develop and implement forest management plans.
Monitor tree growth, health, and biodiversity.
Implement reforestation and afforestation programs.
Prevent and manage forest diseases, pests, and invasive species.
Conduct timber harvesting operations while ensuring sustainability.
Oversee forest product management, including wood and non-wood resources.
Promote sustainable land use practices.
Ensure adherence to forestry laws and environmental policies.
Collaborate with government agencies, conservation groups, and stakeholders.
Protect wildlife habitats and promote biodiversity.
Implement conservation projects in partnership with environmental organizations.
Conduct ecological surveys and habitat assessments.
Educate local communities on sustainable forestry practices.
Engage with landowners, policymakers, and industry professionals.
Participate in public awareness campaigns on environmental conservation.
Conduct field surveys and analyze forest data.
Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for forest mapping.
Prepare reports and recommendations based on research findings.
