SUMMARY:
We are recruiting a Red Seal Fitter & Turner for an established engineering company specialising in hydraulic equipment repair and precision machining for the Wadeville workshop. This hands-on role involves precision machining, fault diagnosis, and rebuilding hydraulic equipment to high quality standards.
POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities Precision Machining Operate conventional/manual lathes, milling machines, drilling machines and other workshop equipment. Manufacture, modify and repair precision hydraulic components to exact engineering tolerances. Machine shafts, pistons, glands, bushes and other custom-engineered components from technical drawings. Hydraulic Repairs & Assembly Strip, inspect, repair and rebuild hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, valves and manifolds. Replace seals, bearings, bushes and worn components. Assemble and pressure-test repaired hydraulic equipment before release. Fault Finding & Diagnostics Diagnose hydraulic and mechanical faults accurately. Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend effective repair solutions. Prepare detailed inspection reports to support the engineering and quotation teams. Quality Control Inspect machined components using precision measuring instruments, including: Micrometers Vernier calipers Bore gauges Dial indicators Ensure all work complies with engineering drawings, tolerances and quality standards. Workshop Maintenance Perform routine maintenance on workshop machinery and tooling. Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment. Health & Safety Comply with all Occupational Health & Safety regulations and company procedures. Adhere to safe workshop practices and wear the required PPE at all times. Minimum Requirements Qualifications Red Seal Fitter & Turner Trade Test (Section 13 or Section 26D) – Essential Grade 12 (Matric) N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification will be advantageous Experience Minimum 3-5 years post-trade experience as a qualified Fitter & Turner. Proven experience within a hydraulic repair, heavy engineering or precision machining environment. Extensive experience operating conventional/manual lathes and milling machines. Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, fluid power principles and hydraulic sealing systems. Experience machining components to close tolerances. Technical Skills Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering drawings. Excellent conventional machining skills. Hydraulic fault-finding and repair expertise. Knowledge of hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves and manifolds. Proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
