Responsibilities
Job Overview: The primary purpose of this role is to ensure maximum plant availability through effective preventative and planned maintenance. Responsibilities include attending to breakdowns, diagnosing issues, conducting repairs, and mechanical modifications to meet standards.
Tasks involve machining mechanical spares, milling, gear cutting, and continuous improvement of manufacturing lines to increase output. Assist with projects, implement cost-saving initiatives, and conduct diagnosis of equipment failures.
Work collaboratively with technicians, determine causes of breakdowns, and perform root cause analysis using techniques like 5-Whys and RCA. Complete job cards, requisition parts, interpret technical drawings, and manage spares and machining activities.
Ensure scheduled maintenance, document work, replace parts proactively, and conduct mechanical modifications. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the machine shop, update documentation, and assist in training apprentices and operators.
Maintain machinery within responsible areas, minimize downtime, and adhere to safety and environmental protocols. Prepare for audits, update records, and perform ad hoc operational tasks. Weekend work and standby may be required.
Qualifications
Qualified Trade Tested Fitter and Turner
Minimum N3 Engineering Qualification
At least 3 years of post-trade test experience in manufacturing
Strong fault-finding skills in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Ability to read schematics and design components
Welding and basic plate work skills
Experience with lathes and milling machines
Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety standards
Proficiency in MS Office and maintenance software (SAP preferred)
