Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to develop and manage a best practice framework for the Finance function that fulfils a statutory, financial management reporting and compliance function to Momentum Investments (Structure Products and Annuities| Retirement Funds|Momentum Money).

Requirements

  • BCom with post articles experience: 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role, in the financial services sector and successful people management skills.
  • Proficient with IFRS and corporate tax. Experience in insurance accounting/tax will be beneficial.
  • Understanding of the Investments and Savings industry.
  • Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge.
  • Strong ability to design and implement accounting processes and internal controls.

Duties & Responsibilities

Process:

  • Develop, plan for, implement and take accountability for the strategy and operating model of the Finance function, in execution of the Momentum Investments strategy.
  • Establish governance systems and take accountability for the effective implementation of corporate governance within the finance area.
  • Establish and take accountability for internal financial monitoring, reporting and auditing frameworks.
  • Ensure robust operational and tax processes are embedded in the business to adhere to all tax legislation.
  • Facilitate delivery of financial and administrative support services to Momentum Investments, particularly:
  • Financial control.
  • Budgeting and forecasting.
  • Revenue collection and recording.
  • Prepare financial statements for each financial year and ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory requirements, regulations and standards.
  • Perform the tax calculations and returns of statutory entities where applicable.
  • Manage, prepare and present the annual budget process.
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors and co-ordinate reports.
  • Prepare and present management reports in a format that will assist the business in reaching its stated operational goals.
  • Where possible, ensure that service delivery is automated, efficient and scalable.
  • Act as the custodian to ensure compliance to Finance governance, relevant legislation and risk mitigation strategies.

Finance:

  • Ensure that the Finance function’s strategy and operating model is adequately budgeted for through the development and implementation of a fit for purpose budget.
  • Continuously search for cost saving initiatives that will support business growth and profitability.
  • Developing and maintaining financial management policies, procedures, processes and systems to promote efficiency in the finance function.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems and ensure compliance with appropriate accounting standards, regulatory and audit requirements.

People:

  • Ensure that all the Finance team members consistently discharge their duties in terms of the financial processes.
  • Develop, implement and manage a People Capability plan that ensures that the Division has the human resources and skills required to deliver on the strategy for the short-, medium- and long term.
  • Develop an empowered employee and specialist structure set in the context of delegation and accountability.
  • Identify, attract, appoint, grow, engage, reward and retain top talent to drive strategic execution.
