SUMMARY:
Purpose of the Position
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial activities within a hospitality establishment. The role ensures accurate financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, cost control, and effective financial planning to support the profitability and operational success of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
- Oversee the daily financial operations of the establishment.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and financial transactions.
- Ensure accurate accounting records and financial systems are maintained.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Develop and manage operational budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor departmental expenditure and financial performance.
- Analyse financial data and provide recommendations to management.
Cost Control
- Monitor food, beverage, labour, and operational costs.
- Identify areas for cost reduction and improved profitability.
- Ensure effective stock and inventory control procedures are implemented.
Accounts and Payroll
- Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Oversee payroll administration and statutory deductions.
- Ensure supplier payments and invoicing are processed accurately.
Compliance and Auditing
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, financial regulations, and company policies.
- Prepare financial records for internal and external audits.
- Maintain accurate documentation and financial controls.
Reporting and Administration
- Prepare financial reports for senior management.
- Present financial performance analyses and recommendations.
- Assist management with strategic financial planning.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g. SAICA, CIMA, ACCA) advantageous.
Experience
- 5–7 years’ experience in accounting or financial management.
- Previous experience in the hospitality industry preferred.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Knowledge
- Financial accounting principles and practices.
- Budgeting and financial forecasting.
- Taxation and payroll administration.
- Hospitality financial operations and cost control.
- Accounting software and financial systems.
