THE JOB AT A GLANCE

Reporting into the Group Management Accountant, the Financial Account will be responsible for ensuring that Rand Mutual Assurance companies, Management Reports, trial balance and source documentation are adequate, timeous, effective and complete. The incumbent will also be responsible for ensuring that all accounting records and financial reports are accurate and for supporting, coaching, mentoring and guiding Junior Financial Accountants.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Management Accounts and Tax Compliance

Prepare management accounts by:

– Preparing monthly General Ledger Reconciliations

– Processing general & standard journals

– Following up and clear discrepancies on recons

Responsible for the timeous and accurate submission of monthly management accounts (including but not limited to income statements, trail balances and balance sheets)

Facilitate month end and year end processes

Prepare Vat and Tax recons and any arising matters

Assist in the preparation of the annual financial statement

Governance and Controls

Perform all work in terms of required standard and regulation

Ensure that all company policies and procedures are adhered to

Ensure timely submission of all reports

Reporting and Audit Support

Meet financial reporting obligations and deadlines

Provide auditors with necessary information as required

Stakeholder Relationship Management and Team Support

Liaise with internal and external stakeholders

Provide support and coaching to junior staff through frequent informal and formal discussions

Ensure that junior staff comply with standards and procedures

Provide support to the Management Accountant during performance reviews in order to monitor and improve the performance of the junior team

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE?

NQF level 7:
Finance Degree completed

Articles advantageous

Minimum 3 – 5 years’ experience as an Accountant in an Insurance/Financial Services Sector (preferred)

Proficient in applying accounting principles in business and application thereof IRFS, Income Tax Act and VAT Act

Knowledgeable in Fixed Assets

Computer literate including working knowledge of excel and related formulas

Sound understanding of and ability to prepare reconciliations, resolving of problems and identifying errors

Accounting Software knowledge and experience
